I think that BMW is phasing out the 335d in favour of the 335i Active Hybrid.
It seems like they would be priced close and in N.America people like hybrids more than diesels, so maybe that is why the wonderful diesel is not here yet (or ever)...

Give it time. We should hold judgement until the next X5 comes out. I suspect we'll know for sure once BMW jettisons the N55 (335i) for a higher HP engine. This would make room for a diesel. The 335d(e90) is impressive. Afterall BMW had to add 2 gears and drop 2 cylinders in their 328 just to reach our performance specs.

I guess you missed all the discussions back in July when the news broke about BMW's diesel plans for N America. The next 3 series diesel offered over here will be the 320d for MY14. A six cyl diesel will be available in the same general time frame but no telling which platform it will land in.
