Repaired damaged x3 for sale. Bad idea???

Would you buy a 2011 x3 with repaired front end damage/deployed air bag?? Low miles, loaded, and great price. Or is that not a good idea??

Maybe for $5K or less, as a 3rd or 4th car

Haha it's about 6k cheaper than other similiar models for sale. Only the other ones don't have any accident history. It was repaired by a bmw dealer service dept but wasn't sure if it's a good deal or just asking for problems.

it may also be haunted if someone died from the crash...

Haha. We can't give you legit advices without knowing details about the repair. Personally I would say don't risk it unless you can negotiate it to a price way lower than what the dealer is asking. With that being said, repaired cars aren't necessary bad. My toyota corolla front crashed a month after I bought it new, and it took more than two months for repair. Today the car is still running great after 10 years with 230K miles.

I would say it's less risky to buy something a little older used that was never in an accident (or go for a less expensive brand). I would never buy something that was in an accident as the only way to get into a premium brand vehicle.

I would pass and keep looking for a deal on a used one with low mileage (have BMW run the VIN number if you are looking at a used one to see if there has been any issues with it) or go for a new one. Check out the damage on this front end crash:

I disagree but obviously you took offense. However, if you can afford it, what would be the purpose of buying one that had been in an accident?

If the price is wright and it has not changed the warranty why not. Just keep in mind when you sell you will have to discount it as well. Keep in mind there is a huge difference between repaired and written off.

What forms of finance/lease was the dealer offering? If BMWUSA is unwilling to make a finance or lease offer on the vehicle, that would speak volumes to me.

A Carfax can also speak volumes. It may provide more details on the extent of the damage.

Careful, the OP might be offended that you possibly suggested he needs financing and cannot pay cash .

Somebody will buy this car and someone will get a good deal on it. If you can get it for about $6K less than the "unreconstructed" cars are going for -- then it is a good deal. However -- this car needs a serious prior sales inspection -- not just the $150 "look it over" kind -- but a put it on the rack, take off the wheels, look inside the hidden parts kind of thing. Expect to pay about $3-400 for that from a respected BMW specialist indy. Be warned however, if you do get the car virtually anything that goes wrong or rattles or bangs, or shimmys, you will think it was caused by the wreck repair.

If the car was certified by the dealer an you get a good price, you should consider the purchase. Resale, would be lower, but given the reduced price already paid this might be OK.

Also consider the 2011 model is near the end of its warranty, so any problems from the accident regardless if repaired by a BMW dealer will be off their books.

I also question accidents as the damage breaks the rust proof seals. You normally have premature rust compared to other accident free cars.

In the US the warranty is four years so he would be good through 2015 or later depending on the "in-service" date.
