MPG on 328i?

According to BMWUSA the 328 does 36mpg (highway). However on BMW's international webpage the 328 is noted as doing 5.2l/100km which translates to 45.2 mpg (highway).
That's a huge difference. Has anybody else noted this? Am I missing something here?

Different measurements - US and EU cycles are different.
US EPA is more realistic - I think the EU highway cycle averages at ~40 mph.

If it's really 36 MPG, that would be amazing. There isn't a 200+ horsepower car that beats it in EPA highway MPG. 36 MPG is what the E90 335d gets, and the new 328i is just as quick, if not quicker.

+1. If EPA Highway is 36, I expect 25 city and 29 or 30 combined.

The 528i with N20 is 24/33, 27 combined, so is reasonable since F30 is ~600 lbs lighter than F10 (both with N20 engine).

You will be able to find official results here, when they are available:

It is rated at 24/33 by EPA according to the Monroney stickers at the Detroit NAIAS.

5.2l/100Km is the "extra-urban" fuel number for the F30 328i. From the wikipedia extra-urban is described as -

Quote:
The extra-urban cycle or EUDC lasts 400 seconds (6 minutes 40 seconds) at an average speed 62.6 km/h (39 mph) and a top speed of 120 km/h (74.6 mph).[24] EU fuel consumption numbers tend to be considerably lower than corresponding US EPA test results for the same vehicle.
The more reasonable number to use is the "combined" number. The F30 press release (page 60) list the combined number as 6.4 l/100k, which is 36.75 mpg. Factor a slightly different testing format and that is basically a match for what BMWUSA has.

True, except the bmwusa number of 36mpg is for hwy mileage and not the combined cycle. I figured the "extra-urban" would be closer to EPA hwy.

No. That was for the 328s.

I'd like to meet someone who gets anywhere near the 23-24 mpg on a 528i in the city.

fueleconomy.gov lists my car as 18/27, 21-combined. Users observed is 24.9, and that pretty much matches what I get for about 50%/50% city/hwy on a tank.

Maybe getting to 36 will require use of eco pro.

You'd be amazed at what the 8 speed transmission did for the mileage.

Exactly.

I can report 32 / 33 mpg on sustained 80 mph 300 mile runs and 23 mpg city average with my 535i F10.

The 8 spd AT and other "efficient dynamics" are working. I don't even have "stop / start".
