Infinity Bass Link install question

Hello to everyone....

Recently ordered something thru Bavarian Autosports and happened to ask about Infinity Basslink subwoofer. They told me their unit (comes with plug and play wiring harness) would not work on my 2001 740il because in that year the radio is different (utilizes fiber optic connections that previous years did not). Was wondering if I could still buy the sub (e-bay/amazon) and just wire it up as described on the E38.org site? Thought I read somewhere that the wiring harness is difficult to access in my year/model with on-board navigation. The radio has DSP (not sure if that matters). Was wondering if anyone ran into this situation before? Any thoughts greatly appreciated!
...Chris

I have a Basslink in my 2000 740i. The wiring was just like the DIY you saw in e38.org.

It's possible the Bavarian guy was getting your car mixed up with the 2002 745i/750iL E65 model. I have a friend with a 2001 740i sport & he has a Basslink like mine installed in his 7.

The set up they sell comes as a package with an "in-house" wiring harness that only works on models 95-2000'. 2001 models have fiber optic connections that make incompatible with that particular plug n play harness. Will just spend extra time wiring up different way. Thanks for the reply....

I didn't use the kit for my Basslink install. Just wired it up myself.

I honestly don't know, but I would be very surprised if BMW made such a major change (using fiber optic cable) for such a short run of the 2001 740's.

My understanding is Crutchfeild's connector just fits inbetween the amp's connectors. If they say the 2001 amp is using fiber optic cable, then that connection would be very different.
I really believe the Crutchfield people have some incorrect info. I'm sure you'll do a fine job wiring it up yourself.

Was it Crutchfield or Bav Autosports?

I agree, the 2000 and 2001 E38 radios should be identical. They could mean late 2001 production 7ers which would be model year 2002, the E65?

Oops. It was Bav Autosports. Don't know where I pulled Crutchfield from. Senior moment!

You guys are right...Standard amp connections. M.Wong, you are indeed correct. Called Bav Auto back to clarify with sales rep. Not really sure he even cared so I am guessing they will continue dispensing this info....

Thanks again to both you guys for the reply! Chris
