BMW apps and bmw assist/USB

Quick question on these...do I need both of these to be able to charge my iphone while in the car and do use my ipod portion of my iphone to play music in the car?

Right now I have the Y cord that allows me to charge my iphone in the car and also use the ipod portion of my iphone to listen to music in the car. I think that was only a few hundred bucks. Now it might cost me $900 to do this??

AFAIK, F30 should come standard with Bluetooth for phone calls (I think can upload phonebook, too) and USB music interface. With the latter you can view contents of music on ipod/iphone, MP3 player or even a generic thumb drive and play songs.

If you want to stream stereo audio over BT or have the iphone display reflected on iDrive screen or use BMW Apps on iPhone, then you need the $650 BMW Apps option.

That stinks...so why do they have the BMW apps listed alone as an option yet when I check it it makes me pick technology package and nav for $2550 and $2100 respectively???

Sorry, mistake on my part.... I combined 6NL and 6NR

If you just want to playback music from a USB cable, you do not need either of those.
6NH - Handfree Bluetooth and USB audio is STANDARD.

6NL - BMW Assist with enhanced Bluetooth and USB - gives you stereo Bluetooth (plus other things) is $650 and a standalone option. (4yrs included, $199/yr after that for the connected features)

6NR - BMW Apps, requiress ZTP and 6NL.

so if I want to use my iphone I can plug it in (with my current Y cable that plugs into a USB in the center console and an input also in the center console) and the display will pop up on the idrive screen? That's all I want to be able to do. I don't need/want BMW assist (but it says USB which makes me think a usb port isn't included as standard).

I don't care about bluetooth. I use a corded headset if I really need to talk in the car. I have bluetooth now and have used it a few times in three years.

6NH - Handsfree BT with USB audio is standard on all US models

No Y-cable needed (may not even work)

You can plug iPhone in to USB using the standard apple USB cable. This gives you song and playlist display on iDrive, based on latest model E90s with this feature. (This works with any MP3 player or even thumb drive with music).

If you want the actual iphone/ipod display to show up on iDrive or you want to use BMW iphone apps like Pandora, etc., then you need BMW Apps, which also requires BMW Assist with enhanced BT.
