More dry rotted wiring in headlight!!

So I took my headlight apart and found this. Now I'm considering buying a $2000 damn headlight at the dealer
Who needs to be notified about this issue to be considered a recall?? I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one with this issue.

I've taken a few e46 headlights apart and never saw anything like that. I never looked inside a facelift coupe's lights though.

Are you certain that all baffles, air deflectors, heat shields and suchlike are in place and not missing on the passenger side of your engine? This kind of damage can only come from excessive and repeated exposure to the heat from the exhaust manifold, for I'm sure the headlamp on the other side is fine.

Yes, everything is in place.. I also had the same problem on my 04 325ci.
I went to a junkyard here in Houston and found a bimmer similar to mine, the car had the same exact issue.

Sure.. But I hope he owns a coupe and not a sedan, they are different in headlights.

Read the parked thread about ZKW headlight bowls; there should be information on how to contact NHTSA.

I ended up going to the dealer and buying brand new headlights. The "quick fix" did not last very long.

It might have been worth trying to wrap the wires in black electrical tape. How much did the new headlight cost you ?

This is the tape you need! Should be available at auto parts stores as well. Do not use regular electrical tape! It $ucks!

My old headlights were pitted up and oxidized. I got the new ones for about $600, and sold the old ones for $300.
