ipod classic does not work

I put in the OEM adapter about 6 months ago, and have used an iPhone, 4Gb iPod, and 16Gb nano. Now trying a 30gb classic and the head unit does not recognize it. Anyone have any thoughts regarding this issue? Is there a work around?

There is a compatibility list somewhere. I'm not sure that the 30gb Classic is on it. I have the 160gb Classic and it worked fine.
