5mph over speed limit gets me a ticket, is this car envy or what

How does a cop even have the gall to write a ticket for 5 over (60 n a 55)
I was on a back country road and my detector went off so I slowed down to my normal (not posted) speed for this road which is 60, cop gets behind me follows me for a few miles then pulls me over, I didn't argue I was very nice to the cop bc I didn't know exactly why he pulled me, I have a M3 that's pretty low due to coil overs all around and has around 300hp NA with a Dinan badge. While he was following me I just drove like granny and still got a ticket. Is this economy related bc I think he's trying to make a quota as its the 27th (end of month) funny how the economy can pull more money from middle class with bs tickets like this.... I've never even heard of a person getting a ticket this low over limit... Anyone else? Envy ticket? Is it my fault I'm highly educated and have the money to have a nice car, just makes me really hate the police aren't they supposed to serve and protect? Who did they protect or serve by giving me a 5 over ticket?

How about the fact that you were running even faster before that, then he only gave you a ticket for 5 over. 5 over is 5 over. Could have been a lot worse. They don't HAVE to 'give' you any leeway at all.

Over the limit is over the limit. Why didnt you slow down to 55? You can't make your own speed limit. It's posted at 55, not 60. No sympathy here.

BTW, my brother is a cop. He makes six figures. He can afford your M3 no problem. Stop thinking you're better than anyone else. You're being arrogant.

I slowed to @ and below 55, it's utter ridiculous to think I would speed with the cop behind me and btw my mother was a K9 PO and my father was the DA of the town I live in(now is a criminal defense lawyer) so there's no 6 figure patrol cops here or anywhere for that matter. I'm pretty sure it was more of either a quota stop or a just a bs envy stop,

Which is it? 55 or 60?

You are consistently contradicting yourself. Just saying.

And yes... NYPD after five years with overtime.

Bet he's not a traffic patrol cop, 6 figures is extremely really high for a "cop", oh and arrogant really c'mon 5 miles over is bs, makes me think there are other reasons behind the stop, and that's the fact of the matter

Le sigh. Which one was it?

You say you slowed down to 60 then you say you weren't going faster than 60. If you had to slow down to 60 then you must have been going faster than 60. See how this works?

I've gotten tickets, and I've been let off of tickets. I've won in court, and all because I have been polite, respectful, have not admitted to breaking the law (save in one instance where I was fully justified in doing so and was ratified by the court). Not to assume to know you, however, from today's posts it seems that you were less than respectful or polite to the officer.

Yes he is a regular cop. Not a LT or CAPT or anything like that. Look up salaries for NYPD over five years. I think it's like 92K but he always puts in overtime which brings it well over 100K.

I completely agree with you that a ticket for five over is excessive. I just didn't like how you implied that cops are being jealous and such because they are inferior to you. Maybe in your neck of the woods, they don't do much but in NYC, it's a different story.

You don't get to pick the speed limit. Posted means it's the law. End of argument.

Not what you said to begin with. Sorry, but you'll get no sympathy here. It doesn't matter if your dad was Attorney General of the US, you were speeding and got caught. Doesn't matter if he had a quota to fill, or (doubtful) it was car envy. You yourself admit you were speeding. Pay the fine and get over it.

Cops are overpaid jerks, settled.

10% is as much as you can argue for in court, and hopefully the prosecutor doesn't know BMWs have notoriously optimistic speedometers.

I was going 60 then slowed to 55 when my detector went off, Sorry for the confusing wording in the original, I'm not saying I didn't break the law but like I said I've never heard of such low over speed ticket, and have always heard 5 over is no big deal, it just errks the crap outta me, and don't understand the purpose of it, I have a race license (wera) and a clean driving record I know where to abide the law and thought I was (even at 5 over) so I guess I'm the bad guy,

Fine can't be that much if it's only five over. After all, you are highly educated and can afford such cars as an M3

Saying you hate cops is also saying you hate your mother, being that she was a cop.

BTW, slightly off topic, but somewhat related... I just love when people call it a speed trap. It's not really a trap if they post the speed limit for everyone to see lol. The speed limit is no secret or trap for that matter. They are not trying to deceive you lol.

This is rediculos. Don't blame the cops for doing their job. Blame the law makers for making the laws you don't agree with. Cops are just doing their job. They are sworn in to enforcing the law that the law makers put out. That's what they are paid for. Go somewhere where the laws are more liberal and the cops don't do what they are paid to do, like a third world country. See how much you enjoy that.

I prob shouldn't have jumped on here 15 min after getting the ticket...Ya should've worded that differently, it makes me want to "hate"(which is a strong word) I Dislike them-just traffic cops but if someone was breaking into my house I would still call 911 and expect help of course so I guess I'll consider it a donation,

I completely understand your frustration. I'm with you on that and I do agree that it was excessive for five over. A warning would have sufficed. I was breaking balls because my brother works in the toughest neighborhood of Brooklyn you can imagine and it just got to me a little. I'm not gonna lie. I'm guilty of the same thing all the time (five or even more over). I'm sure many on here are. Cop could have been having a bad day or whatever the source was, doesn't matter. I just thought you sounded a bit arrogant, saying he was jealous of you. Sucks that he got you but the truth is, you were speeding.

Dang, Cali seems pretty lenient now.. 5 over practically gets you a ticket for holding up traffic.

Rule of thumb, if you are driving drunk, you should always go five over. Driving at or below the speed limit makes you look guilty lol. Not that I drive drunk, which is idiotic, but I heard that unwritten rule floating around the bars.

Honestly, I would be pissed for getting a ticket for going five over.

And the whole issue on cops- I feel that the ********* minority give the majority the bad name. Same with BMW owners.

Well from a person who's been stopped for having a car too low and exceeding speed limit by 35mph...

A cop/HP is doing their job...

Don't say you hate them because you got caught breaking the law... That ridiculous...

As for getting a ticket for 5 over that's just being a dick...

He must have dropped about 17k in parts and work. I'm at 289 whp an I spent about 12k after parts and labor I have receipts to prove. To squeeze the extra 12HP out I have to bore out and that's not gonna happen. He must have an ls1 or something cause it's not a BMW engine.
