Extended warranty question & prices.

When I go to bmwconfig.com I can see invoice prices on options, but not on extended warranties. Can I find those somewhere?

Also, am I required to purchase the extended warranty with the vehicle and the same dealer or can the extended warranty be a separate and/or delayed transaction? With some other car vendors you have a window after the purchase of the vehicle to buy extended warranty and you are not required to use the same dealer.

I guess you aren't plan to lease the car.

You are only going to lease the car for like 36 months, so the car is still under warranties. No need to purchase additional extended warranties no?

Based on my experience with my E46 for which I did buy the extended warranty:
- You don't have to buy the extended warranty at the time of buying the car. You can buy it any time before the original warranty expires.
- You can buy it from any dealer. Many will even allow you to buy it remotely. You just have to mail them a recently used key so they can get the mileage off of that. It definitely pays to shop around because prices vary very widely...when I was shopping I found a variance of $1000.
- I paid around $2200 back in 2005 for my car. By now, I would assume it is a bit more expensive, but you can get an idea of prices by calling around.
- Dealers usually sell third-party (non-BMW) extended warranties as well. That is the one they will try to push on you. Make sure you are very clear you want the one offered by BMW.

If you would like information or prices please send me a message and I will get you some information.

You are not required to buy the warranty and maintenance extension from the selling dealer. You can buy them from any dealer and use them at any dealer in the United States. As long as you are under the original 4 year / 50,000 mile coverage then you are eligible to extend it out further, so you don't need to do it at the time you purchase the car. I hope this helps.
