Question about the raffle...

I just got back from Bimmerfest (took an extened weekend), my first and it was awesome!

I had a concern (or question I guess) about the raffle that took place... can somebody tell me who was the organizer/MC that called out the winners of the raffle? I missed the intro's and I'm not quite sure who was who. Does he read these boards, and/or is there a way to reach him by e-mail?

Wow, that was fast, thanks for the response. Maybe I'll ask the question here if that's okay...

My question/concern was something that I noticed towards the end of the raffle. When you were drawing the ticket for the second (to last) "big" prize, the AC/Schnitzer package, I saw that you drew one ticket, looked at it for a second, shook your head and then put it back! Then you drew another ticket and read the name out for the winner...

Can you tell me what was wrong with the first ticket you picked? I have a guess what the answer is, but I wanted to ask you first...

On that draw I pulled a ticket with the same name that nobody had claimed
on an earlier draw... I don't remember the person's name - we called it out,
and waited a while. There was no last name on it. It was something like "Kenny
G". People were chomping at the bit, overheated from the sun, and ready
to go on the road rally. We were running about 45 minutes behind schedule.
Next time we'll get addresses so that we can send the prizes I guess...

congrats on raising that much for the charity! It was nice to see the smiles on all the winners' faces!

The sound system was more than adequate! Nice job leftside.

Didn't we raise more last year? Ticket sales were sort of slow in the morning, despite having good looking sales staff. I guess I did pretty well, winning twice in 10 tickets.

You're right - last year we raised around $7k, but we had a radical set of
RD Sport C4 Alloy wheels as the grand prize last year too...

I am going to have to figure out a way to find us some mac daddy prizes
next year (not to take anything away from the gracious folks at Toyo and
Yokohama this year).

I've also been toying with the idea of a "Jon Shafer Dunk Tank" to raise
a few more bucks... ....Especially if it is blazing hot again next year!

I suspect that if you talked a handful of select choice board regulars into volunteering you could make MANY more bucks than if you were the victim, er volunteer.

speaking of which anyone know who the 2 raffle girls were? or anyone have pictures i noticed some folks shooting pics, but haven't seen many surface quite yet.

another quick thought. jon, maybe u know who the girls were? names? contact info? the blond one didnt look too much like a car show girl but the other one fits with that idea. any info from anyone guys??

Thanks for the reply and explanation, I appreciate it. I was thinking that maybe you pulled a ticket with no name. I was kind of surprised that you were calling names out instead of numbers, like I've usually seen at these kinds of raffles. Then I think I was a little paranoid because I had the feeling that my tix went into the barrel with no name on them! The girl who sold them to me asked me to spell my name, but she only wrote it on one ticket (I bought $40 worth of tix--10 of them). She wrote it on the end ticket and said that's all she needed... I had this uneasy feeling when all the names were getting called out that nine of my tix went in with no name! Especially becasue when I passed by the ticket sales booth later, they were asking the buyers to write their names on ALL their tickets. I thought, Oh DanG, who filled out my name on the rest of my blank tickets!!??!

Oh well, I guess it doesn't matter because I have no luck anyway!

The one you're describing came down in the BayBimmerz crew. She came with her boyfriend, I believe.

Nah, they were filling them out after you left. They didn't want to make multi-ticket buyers wait for them to finish copying the name. I suspect they got tired of copying the names later in the day and asked the buyers to do it themselves.

Thanks for organizing Bimmerfest! It was my first event but I'll be back every year! It was awesome!

As for the raffle, it seemed to me that there was a minor marketing problem. No one knew what the prizes were! A lot of people were first time Bimmerfest attendees, such as myself. I think if there was a big display or booth showcasing the prizes for the raffle, we could have easily exceeded last years total. From what I heard, last year's grand prize was awesome. But this year's grand prize was awesome too. If people had known, I'm sure more people would've bought tickets!

But I shouldn't complain, I won 2 prizes! I was the first name you called out!

Part of the problem was that prizes were on display in the Bimmerfest tent, but not obviously marked as such. I had to keep telling people that the prizes were not free samples.
