Honestly bro I would say a new car. Around a 100k you will start losing money everywhere. There is no one or few things to look out more or less EVERYTHING. Don't get me wrong bro but I don't think its a good financial investment. With the miles being around that you can still probably get close to 10k for it I assume. Best of luck my friend.

Re: 2003 745i 75k on the miles

I would start with transmission fluid pan seeling sleeve and adapter. After that guibo joint. Then after that make sure engine is good working order if it is valve cover gaskets timing cover gaskets. Then after that I would check cooling system start with water pump thermostat and cooling pipe. Then after all that suspension check control arms and struts. A lot of thing aren't they haha? That's why I did a little each year instead of waiting for all of them to be done at once but if you have the funds go for it all. Shop around between Indy and parts online don't bother with the dealer it will be way to much. Good luck its not a cheap car to maintain if you want it to run right.

Re: 2003 745i 75k on the miles

Alot of the parts I mentioned if there not already failing they will. That's why I would replace some of them before. The trans oil is a good place to start probably is going to cost about 500 at Indy or less if you do it yourself. You can get oil and filter kits from ctsc online that's where I bought mine and several others plus its original zf oil and parts so you can't go wrong.

I did not mean it like that. I was only implying that because of the known issues an while he still may have some equity left in the vehicle, I would trade it off.

Bottom line is if you like the car and are prepared to keep it running do a few things

1.put money aside for potential repairs.

2.price out major parts ahead of time.

3.check ebay for pricing

4.find a good salvage yard

5.find a good indy you can trust

If you read these treads all these 7's no matter what year they are have issues from time to time.

Enjoy your car

Thanks man. You will enjoy it . I had too many cars to count and all of them break down sooner or later. Plus if it is not paid for it will be soon at that price and you can get something else to go with it

1. I'm a fiffin dumb ass
2. I believed what the shop was telling me .
3. These shops were taken advantage of the situation - and telling me I needed this that everything !

That valve stem job - that goes for about 2,500 bucks

I payed 10,000 k alone for a valve job
And heads

My tranny was about 8k
That went out -

Damn dude ...yeah i ve had the car only a few months and went to the dealer once and right then and there I knew they were lying and ripping off people. Luckily there's a MUCH cheaper place here where I live ..When did your tranny go out? Was at once or over time?dude dont ever take it to the dealer, thats your last place to go..they re 3times more expensive i swear

Re: 2003 745i 75k on the miles

Dealer is a big no no with this car when your out of warranty. Good Indy and online pricing will save you tons. And the dude that spent 26k damm you could of bought a new engine straight from BMW cheaper. Its a shame when some mechanics and shops try to scam the customer. This forum will keep you from getting scammed and the help from forum members that are mechanics themselves could save you thousands on a potential scam. The days when you had to believe the dealer or people that didn't know any better are gone. Every possible problem has pretty much been covered in the archives here.
