e46 Wheel Fitment, Offset, etc. questions

I'm shopping for some winter wheels on my 2004 e46 330ci. The current wheels are the 2004 staggered 19" M3 rims along with 265/30zr19 and 235/35zr19 performance tires. I'm not 100% sure of the offset of the wheels, but I'm sure it'd be simple to find. Now, I'm looking to downgrade the rim size 18". I'm extremely confused by the whole "wheel fitment" idea and what will or will not fit on my car. I just don't know what to look for while I'm browsing and sites. Can someone PLEASE help me with this dilemma!? Just give me the whole breakdown of everything. Thanks.

See THIS ???:

<<<Bimmerfest's E46 Wiki>>> Read this before posting questions!

The Wiki contains a whole section on what wheels & tires will (or won`t) fit on your car. If your wheels are real M3 wheels, they will not work on a non-M body....M3s come with wider rear quarter panels.

Ahh I see, then it's very possible they're not real m3 rims. I just recently bought the car, and I've gotten nothing just compliments and that's all that matters! Lol, anyways do I just need to find what would fit on my specific BMW then? Like what offset and stuff works? I know TireRack let's you shop by your vehicle but i'm sort of skeptical about that.
