Good article. But now I'm really screwed. Handling and money, versus power and growl. Damn.

As the owner of a heavily modified Mercedes C43 -- which all should know in stock form is "handling challenged", and I have to assume far more than the the new 335i is stock -- I firmly believe from my experience, that a lowering and swapping of most of the fixed links in the rear to adjustable links, to take advantage of a 4-wheel alignment done by a capable speed shop that preps week-end warrior's race cars or participates-in & runs an actual competitive race team themselves ... you can dial-out that understeer while maintaining excellent balance and stability.

Nice review, thanks, this should help me coz i'm on the fence between 328i and 335i, auto and 6 speed, M sport vs Sport Line.

Is it for real that GM-sourced AT in the 328i? If it is, I'm going stick.

It has been a GM-sourced AT in the 328i for many, many years... nothing new.

However, the 8AT in the F30 is a ZF unit in both the 328i & the 335i. Unless there is something I'm not aware of. Mike? GM provided automatics for the E46 and E90. btw - GM's transmission unit is known for producing very good automatics and has been for many years.

I'm not really sure... I just know about GM's 6AT in the 328i (I am not a big fan of how it shifts... but it is reliable).

From my conversation with a ZF rep at the Detroit NAIAS I'm virtually 100% certain they are supplying all of BMW's 8ATs. The steptronic in my '04 E46 330i ZHP was a GM unit. I think the step in my '00 328i was a GM unit, too, but it might have been Getrag.
