Red face My 2002 Z3 stalls at every stop... :(

Hello, this the first message I have sent, but I have really enjoyed reading everyone elses. My baby car stalls at every stop sign or red light! If I turn the AC off and riv the motor up, it will usually start running right, until the next stop. Some people think im trying to race them, but im just trying to keep it cranked. Has anyone else had this problem? My son has tried several things, but it's still acting up. Someone said it might be the gas cap. I'm going to order one tonight and see if it helps? Any ideas would be Greatly Appreciated. Thanks.... Cathy in Georgia

Do you have any warning lights on "Service engine soon", etc...?

Check anything that has to do with idle and oxygen. throttle Body, air intake, O2 sensor. that kinda stuff.

Does your car idle after you start it and before you drive? Does the AC on and off make a difference?
Is it a standard or automatic transmission?

Hello.....It's a standard stick. Yes, it idles when I start it and before I drive. Yes, if the AC is on, it will shut off at every stop, unless I turn off the AC before I get to my stop and push down on the gas. Thanks for your help.... Cathy

I would check all vacuum hoses to make sure there are no leaks and properly connected.

It could be a a vacuum leak from any number of places. It could be a faulty idle air control valve:

or a faulty VANOS: http://www.beisansystems.com/faq.html

There may be even more possible causes. It's going to take some troubleshooting, but none of these problems are too hard to fix. The VANOS will be a few hundred dollars in labor.
