The 2013 Audi Allroad anyone?

Since living in Europe I've really come to appreciate sport wagons due to their functionality and efficiency compared to the suvs. Audi, MB, BMW, Opel and even Ford ( the Mondeo over here is sweet) make some nice wagons. Of course I was disappointed when shopping around that BMW didn't bring the 5er touring model to the states and instead tried to compensate for that with the GT.

That being said I've seen that Audi is bringing their Allroad back to the US in 2013. I've read about it and even configured one on the German site and to be honest, it looks very nice. Unfortunately here they have both an A4 and A6 version and but we'll only get the A4 platform.

I love my Bimmer but unless they bring the touring to the US I may have to defect to Audi for that All-Road! Anyone else?

Uh, NO.

And to be fair, I liked the original Allroad...when I needed the ground clearance.

The Allroad is very nice and would most definitely be on my short-list of utilitarian vehicles if it weren't for the fact that my GX470 continues to superbly meet those needs for my family.

IMHO, Audi > BMW in every respect except one: driving fun/experience. I personally prefer their exterior designs, their interiors are great and fit/finish a notch above BMW. If you're in the market for a wagon, and Audi has one that meets your needs, I'd jump on it. Full dislosure: we're a long-time BMW family, who in addition to a BMW 5, recently sprung for a Q7 - which we love.

+1

I am coming from a 7-series to this 535xi and when shopping, I really wanted the A8 over any car I drove including the new 7-series (boring exterior and interior compared to the A8) and my current car. I completely agree that the driving experience is a not a BMW as their cars generally do not come with the HP. The A8 had 342 compared to the 500+ for the F02. BUT, Audi's exterior design, interior gadgets, and interior cockpit-like design swayed me over. I just could not get them to give me crap on my 7 trade so I reluctantly went with this 5-series as BMW gave me $5k more. The new 7-series was out of the question after seeing and driving the A8. This 535xi is a nice bridge the gap car and it is a ton of fun to drive.

My plan though is in a year, I will give this to my wife and take her paid for Q7 to Audi and trade it in on an A8.

I am a long time bimmer driver (20+ years), but I need a change.

Joe,
+1 on that! I love my 550 but if I had the choice ( and the $$$) I would definitely get an A8 over a 7. It's just a beautiful car inside and out. Plus after looking at the threads and gathering different opinions there are some Audi options that seem just a tad better than BMW like MMI and all wheel drive compared to I-drive and X-Drive. I've always been partial to BMW but if I'm ever going to venture elsewhere chances are it will be for an Audi.

I like that Audi is taking a risk and bringing over a wagon to the U.S. At some point, it will catch on.

Meanwhile, BMW continues to build good cars, but they are pretty conservative options to match the target market.

A 5 wagon would be a great option to have.

Except the A8 has no power. 0-60 in about 6 seconds. I'd much rather have a 750 than an A8.

The S8 will remedy this.

I like the Allroad. The problem is size and price. The A4 is to small as a family utility vehicle. The A6 when it was available had a price tag that would be above the Q7s today. For a 2nd car which prime duty will be hauling gear and luggage in all kind of foul weather and terrain the addiitonal gound clearance of the Q7 at a lower price point makes more sense. The same goes for pretty much any Euro wagon in the US. In Europe it's different since there people mostly choose between an upmarket sedan and a wagon/SUV. Not many have both and there the wagon makes more sense as a do it all vehicle.

not to start a war between 750 and A8
i test drove A8 very extensively and gave it a lot of thoughts, before getting my 550 xi M
"older" 4.2.V8 was a concern, but car feels very fast and nimble in SWB version, and interior at least to my not sophisticated taste is superb.
but again this is just IMO

You think the 7 series is Boring compared to an A8? Wow. It looks like a giant A4.

Have you driven the new F10? The new A6 is vastly superior in driving fun/experience not only in my opinion but head to head comparisons in mags. The new 5 is no 5 of long ago!

In some ways. But the loose steering destroys the experience for me.

Also, the F10's interior > the new A6's, in my estimation. Maybe the story is different at other points of comparison (A4 vs. F30, or A8 vs. F01) -- I didn't shop those segments so can't forward an opinion. But the F10's interior is just fantastic, and the A6's doesn't meet the bar.

I do. Keep in mind before this F10 I had driven 5 7-series in a row including three E66's in a row, so the F02 just did not do it for me and I could not see myself dropping $100k on a car that really did not get my juices flowing. With regard to your "giant A4" comment, same could be said for BMW's. The 7 is just a giant 5 series and the 5 is just a giant 3.

You should see the A8 with "20 wheels and their version of cinnamon brown interior with beige stitching. I completely agree with others that it could use a few more HP's, but it had enough for me to make the switch.

I just can't get myself past the hideous pop-up NAV and I'm a former Audi owner.

+1 Totally agree with you. BMW and Audi both just scale the size of the cars and the design is basically the same across the models. They change the light designs between the models and call it a day.
Definitely needs more hp. I wouldn't buy the A8 with that 4.2 as it is way underpowered in my opinion. While it drives much sportier than the 7 and S class it needs more power. Look towards the S8 with TT and should be somewhere in the area of 520hp.

Yo!, no-boy and bm-bored,
Buy a quatroporte, or a panameera.
Be happy ever after.
But stop downtalking by comparing with totally different budgeted cars.
Truly you do not offer any new insights and all this kind of nonsense argumentation is called Trolling because of that.
