BMW MUSEUM CLOSED for Repair

Just a note...I was going to the museum May 4th and it was closed for repairs/rennovation.
Don't have any idea when it is re-opening....check with the folks at the delivery center or maybe the website for more info.

If it's any consolation, the museum was not highly thought of according to many reports here. On that basis, I didn't even bother trying to visit during my ED trip. The replacement museum is supposed to be better, but that remains to be seen.

If one is to believe the architectural drawing at the construction site for the new delivery center/museum (which is right across from the old museum/HQ bldg), then it will be spectactular. It's scheduled to open in 2006 (in time for my next ED in 2007, but too late for my wife's X3 ED). The existing Delivery Center is actually less than impressive, but the new one should be awesome.

As an aside, while at the Harms location in Munich yesterday morning, I saw a tractor/trailor with the BMW/Williams F1 logo on it. Could that be where some of the F1 engine development goes on? I also think I remember seeing a sign for BMW M Gmbh somewhere between the Harms place and Dachau.

Yeah, "BMW Welt" as it is called looks like it will be amazing -- much more impressive than the current ED Center, and it is right across the street from HQ! Here's the website:

OK, I just decided to see if "welt" means anything in German (I'm a little slow today). So, the new center is "BMW World". I like it!

It was years ago but I thought the BMW Museum was a great experience...one of everything and a lot of stuff we never saw here in the US. The Deutsches Museum in Munich also has a large car display I believe which is supposed to be excellent. If you want poor car museums, go to Zuffenhausen for Porsches...it's basically "Ferdinand's garage". But it was fun watching them "roadtest" 911s in the parking lot.
