Exclamation F30 Front License Plate Issue Addressed...

"From November 2011 to mid-January production, all MY2012 3 Series Sedans have been built with a permanently mounted front license plate holder. The below pictured, permanently affixed front plate holder should not be removed because it will leave holes in the front bumper that cannot be covered.

As of mid-January 2012 production all 3 Series Sedans will have the license plate holder stored loosely in the trunk and will come with 8 screws for mounting. An image of the post-January production change license plate holder is pictured below for your reference."

After seeing it on my car today in person, its not that bad(certainly not as bad as i thought it would be). It kind of blends in(especially on mineral grey) And the only positive i can see from it is that it kind of keeps the lines of the grille as the mount angles down
Might have to get a cool looking euro plate

The paint looks a little ****ed up if you look at it str8 on, kind of wavy, must be because its plastic

You can see an f10 in the background, and thje totally flat front end looks just a tad funny imo

Wow. If I were ordering my car I would like my car to be had with the 8 screws directly into the bumper. The front license plate holder is truly hideous in my opinion. Saw a few F30's today with them.

Cool! Now how does this affect ED cars? Will they have the European plate mounted on the front at pick up time?

ED cars in the past have had front "customs" plate affixed with adhesive. No bracket or holes.

Not that it will matter except to early adopters, but are the holes so big or so many that Bumper Plugs will not work?

I think if you live in a no front plate state you have to affix a Euro plate there, it looks weird without one.

I've got "fake" Euro plates on my parents cars, and even on my GTO...

Don't have a picture of my mom's 530 with it, but it looks better than without it.

That license plate holder looks terrible way too big takes away from the looks of the car, there are better options out there!

Thanks Jon for the clarification. My SA & I were looking at the recent F30 deliveries & wondered about the 'leave it in the trunk' option.

Yes, but will the mid jan 12 production cars without the plate mounted still have the vampire bite marks?

Actually, I think the plate holder is sort of like a bumper guard. Might not be a bad idea to have it.

The only aspect of my Bimmer that really bothered me, exterior-wise, was having the dealership's company emblem on the back. Got that solved really fast and asked the salesman to take it off and now it looks a TON better.

I'm glad that they are making this optional, but if the customer opts into having it installed, they should still be able to install the larger plate guard bolbus thingy. I live in California and am trying to get my CA to make sure that nothing is added to the front, but if I were to get tired of being pulled over for having no front plate, I'd want the dealer to install the better looking (IMHO) large mount rather than the plain flat one.

The "big one" was temporary. It's not being produced or delivered with the cars anymore.
This is what you get now (front on left)
