I think so Politby, I would assume that you would lose the on-board phone.....but who needs it when you Bluetooth your own phone in....and then you can gain the extra drawer space.

Hey PAPER, does your car have rear telephone?
Have you looked at the connectors that are in your TCU at the moment.
Do you have a 26 pin and a 12 pin? If so, they need to be dismantled and the wires refitted to the 54 pin connector.
The MOST fibre optics separate away from the 12 pin connector and connect solo into the new TCU.
They slide out easy with the use of a small jewellers screw driver.
Does you car have the phone in the front drawer?

I can supply you my wiring changes that I did to get my Bluetooth TCU in and working, but I just want to make sure you have the same as me. I can work out the wiring diagram for you if your car is a bit different.

The main thing to pay attention to is the transposition of the wiring from the old connectors to the new 54 pin connector so the same features and functions are maintained.

The pins DO NOT go back in the corresponding numbers.....for example pin 1 may be pin 22 in the new connector and so forth. This is all easy to work out, I just need to clarify what TCU you have at the moment and the TCU that you want to put in so I can tell you the correct pin assignments.

There is a small adapter you need to add to the MOST connector, do you have that as well?

Hey PAPER,

Old TCU pin assignments are in X547(12 pin) and X10525 (26 pin)
New TCU X695 (54 pin)

So first column is where you are going to and the second column is where they came from.

X695

1 Mic +................7 X547
3 Cradle-0
12 CAN-H..............17 X10525
13 CAN-L...............18 X10525
15 Tel to ZGM.........4 X547
17 12v Positive.......13 X10525
19 Mic -..................8 X547
21 Shield................1 X547
31 SNOTR...............9 X547
36 12v Negative......26 X10525
37 LSNOTR +
38 LSNOTR -
46 Cradle-K
50 LNOTR...............10 X547

Now as far as 3, 37, 38, and 46 go on the 54 pin X695, I will get back to you on that tomorrow.

Cradle-0 and Cradle-K are self explanatory (the cradle in your centre console) and LSNOTR + & - are the emergency loud speaker connections.

The two antenna connections will only fit on the appropriate connectors of the new TCU so that is straight forward. One will work as your Bluetooth antenna until you install the one in your centre console if you feel like it. I have not installed the Bluetooth antenna in my centre console yet because my antenna system is working fine from the old TCU as the Bluetooth antenna.

Any questions, just ask.

At least you can get started with that.

Ace

PAPER, even if you do this, the system will work, just without the emergency system. Your phone will Bluetooth to your car, just need to finalise the cradle connections so you can charge your phone via the cradle.

Ace tell me please. I've got BMW this BMW Professional phone option in my car.
I've searching for another TCU unit with what i can use normal bluetooth with any bluetooth phone and i cant realised which one i need because there is a lot of different TCU units: some TCU, Everest etc.
And now you are writting that i can code this BMW Professional to Full Access!
I looks like you had the same telephone in the center console like me except i've got facelift car. So why i'd buy another TCU unit?
Sorry for my stupid questions. If you wrote it somewhere already give me please the link.

Hi AceFX,

Really like the amount of work you have done and been kind enough to document it all for the rest of us!

Im looking to upgrade my MMI in the future when ive got on top of all the other repairs in the mean time!

I have been wondering about retrofitting the bluetooth to my 2002 UK spec 745. Luckily you seem to have a quite a bit of experience in doing this.

I think i have a similar setup to yours originally, I have the siemens telephone in the top drawer with the sim card slot etc... i do not have the rear phone.

I also have the siemens unit in the boot with the two connectors.

Do i need to upgrade the MMI first? or can I upgrade the TCU with the older pre-facelift MMI?

Also looking at the wiring the UK spec cars are slightly different, they dont seem to interface with the SIM like it shows on the US spec diagrams.

As long as I find the right diagram for my car it should be a simple case of moving the wires to the correct positions on the new connector?

Many thanks!

I am asking myself the exact same question. As I understood it Ace had a TCU with no Bluetooth at all, not even the one that is limited to the BMW handset. But I may be wrong.
Over on the German 7-forums.com everyone is adamant that there is NO WAY to get full BT functionality in a pre-09/2006 E65 short of replacing the TCU. But that has been said of a lot of the stuff Ace has pulled off so I am inclined to believe him.
I am going to do a nettodat recode of my MMI tomorrow as per Ace's instructions, will report back. I believe Rostman and I have the same hardware in our cars.

My car is 09/2005. I think in a few days i will look up on my TCU unit and make some photos.
I'd really love to have this option in my car.
Ace, which one TCU you'd buy? How did you know which one would be right one?

Hey Rostman.....
In response to your question about Business Bluetooth.
It is just a coding change to the GUI to give you FULL access.
I can change my Bluetooth Access from FULL access back to the limited BMW Business and vice versa....of course I have chosen FULL ACCESS.
It is just a coding change.....and I can do it....look at my videos!
Way back early on in the peace, before all the crap that happened with that Black_on_black expert (ex is a has-been and spurt is a drip under pressure) in my videos I was demonstrating alternating between limited Business Bluetooth and Full Access Bluetooth.

Hi StuartJohn24,

Yes you can achieve Full Bluetooth functionality in your car but you need to change the TCU.
My car is a march 2003, DE78215, and I have successfully replaced the original TCU, which would be the same as your one now, with the facelift Bluetooth version TCU.
I did not try Bluetooth with my pre-facelift (original MMI). One of the first things I replaced in my car was the MMI with the facelift one.....more colours, better graphics and faster processing.
So, if your inclined, it can all be done.
If you need help with the diagrams just let me know and I will help as much as I can.
The ringtone is much better in the car too with the Bluetooth set up by the way......

Ace

Hi Politby, hows the weather?....had to throw that in!!

I had to replace my TCU, as demonstrated in the videos, and modify the plug connections, but inherently the wiring was the same, they basically just changed the plugs!
I showed in a video earlier my old TCU and the new TCU I was preparing to install.
In this Thread I have shown the new TCU fitted and how I have FULL Bluetooth Access.
You too can achieve Full Bluetooth Access (and lose your limited BMW Business phone, you can only have one or the other) and then pair any phone you like.
Here is the video I did way back showing the new Bluetooth TCU ready to be installed.....go to about 1min 30secs into the video
......

Here is the video I made showing the Bluetooth TCU retrofitted to my car
......

Now contrary to what BMW says, I have successfully recoded this unit to my car...VIN, SOS functions etc. BMW claim this can only be done from the factory....Pzzzzzzzzzzzz...... I did it, and it works fine.

Now, because your car is a facelift, and has Bluetooth, it's really easy for you........ just change the coding in the MMI. Command line 3002 pos 7 to 3F

Ace

Hi Rostman, so your car is a Sept 2005, that would make it a facelift model? Yes?
What type of phone system do you have in your car at the moment?

Thanks Ace for your answer.
I've got facelift model - you are right. I've got 638 option telephone Professional.
Like on this photo.

The photo is not mine. I think its pre-facelift on it, but the phone is exactly the same.
How did you understand which TCU unit you need to buy to make it work like FULL ACCESS?

I will look up which one i have.
