Oh for sure my friend like even here in canada if i had 760 prefacelift i would update even if i spent 5000$ i just payed 13000$ to fix my car. Just cuz its a new engine in it

Thx ACE i really love it myself well 90% of the car got new paint ill drive it for couple more years and get f01 right away but ill enjoy it for now. I wish it was 760 tho. Ur a lucky man

SUCCESS: (Kind of)

Sorry I haven't posted in awhile. I was able to connect to the TCU using the dummy VO #0907 with NCS Expert and after running the CODIERINDEX_LESEN job which interegated the ECU and retrieved the correct coding index. I never had to use $633 (in fact I couldn't connect until I stopped trying to use it.). Everything was working fine except the SVS for telephone which was quickly rectified by changing the VR_EQUIPPED_TCU15 to aktiv. Huge thanks goes out to Politby for his video and you and Paper who always have tried to help. This wasn't on my list of must get done items, since I had Bluetooth functionality from the day I did he retrofit. I was just uncomfortable not being able to read the TCU and when I realized that I didn't have Voice Activation for Telephone I just wanted to resolve it.

Only issues I am left with are: BMW ASSIST has greyed out areas even though the correct VIN is showing in my MMI. I have been able to code all my retrofit modules correctly with my new VIN so I'm not sure where the issue is. It's not a major problem, but annoying just the same.

Last issue is that I still can't select AUTO P in my MMI. It's there and not greyed out, but every time I click on it nothing happens. I have the button on my steering wheel set to Auto P, and that doesn't activate it either. I used Expert Mode to reset the MMI configuration based on the VO (Paper's suggestion I believe) with no luck. I tested it before making any changes to the default configuration to make sure my configuration wasn't the issue) again with no luck.

These are the only 2 coding issues left and I'd like to resolve them at some point in the near future. Hopefully someone has some insight into what the issues could be.

On a hardware note, I had changed all my interior and exterior lights to LED with great success except in one area. I updated my HID headlights to the Euro version without the Amber side markers and with the black instead of orange on the sides. I wanted to switch out my turn signals to LED (2 on each side). I bought 4 of the same ones and after installing them only the 2 middle lights (1 on each side) flashed when I make a turn or activate/deactivate the alarm. The outer bulbs which are exactly the same don't work. I get the CC error and the rapid blinking when making a turn. If I switch the bulbs with the ones that are working in the middle, the outer still won't work, but the inner ones still do. This tells me that the LED bulbs are all good. Why would the outside give errors (basically saying that i need to replace my bulbs and the inside work perfectly with no errors? I got rid of the errors by disabling the CC for those bulbs, but I still have no idea why the problem is happening. Is it because it wants the outer to be amber and my LED's are 6000k white? If that were the case I would think the inside LED's might also have issue. I also replaced the rear turn signal amber bulbs with the same ones and they are working great. Just a little feedback about what I've retrofitted so you have all the info needed. I retrofitted the MMI, iDrive controller and leather knob, Navi03', TCU, iPod kit, IHKA, and the Light Switch/ Parking Brake to the left of my steering wheel LHD (US). Sorry for the long post. Hope between you, Politby, Paper, and ACE I can get these issues resolved.

I can't get BMW Assist or BMW Online working either. Not sure if it is a coding issue or just that my car was originally sold in Germany and it only works there.

I've been a little busy with a different project this summer - buying a convertible - so haven't been here much. Here is the result of that effort:

I can't help with the lights , sorry I haven't tried changing bulbs as you have .

But I can tell you what I did on another members car for the auto park . We had to use expert mode & reset & re-sync his Cas , cluster , & MMI . I'm not sure if the auto park needs all 3 re-synchronized or not , but it was working after we did this .

How did you re-sync the three modules? My auto-p also doesn't work. I'm wondering if this re-sync will fix the CBS reset on the cluster!?

Paper, Thanks for the suggestion. It's definitely worth a try. I have reset both the MMI and KOMBI using Expert Mode, but have not done the CAS. How did you sync them after resetting them using Expert Mode?

On a side note I was able to get BMW Assist working. I now have the option of initializing the BMW Assist service where as before I couldn't. I'll post my TCU and MMI trace if anyone wants. I now also have my phone available again when using SVS (lost it when I switched from the BTUM to the retrofit TCU.

I also was able to add the digital speedometer on my KOMBI using the instructions from http://www.bmwcoding.com/showthread....al-speedometer. My BMW e66 has a mid 2003 build date which doesn't give the option of activating it directly in the KOMBI trace file so the instructions above were very helpful.

As for the LED outside turn signals not working I might have some possible avenues to try:

1. My LMA coding index returns LM_E60_C0E when running the CODIERINDEX LESEN job in NCS Expert (really useful job when you want to know what the code index is supposed to be vs. what NCS Expert shows you when you try and read an ECU). I run that job prior to reading any ECU. I guess either the LMA is from an E60 and was retrofitted prior to me purchasing the car. I have upgraded my headlights awhile back (fun removing the bumper). I purchased the Euro headlights that have black instead of orange reflectors in the corners, and also don't have the corner bulbs. I think maybe one or both of these could be causing the issue. I really need to compare the E65 LMA trace file with mine and see if something is different with the Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) values between the inside turn signal bulbs which work fine, and the outside ones that aren't working. Since the bulbs are identical and have been tested and are known to work, maybe they need less or more voltage. Hopefully I don't fry anything.

Hopefully Paper's suggestion fixes the Auto P issue some of us are having.

Thanks for posting the SVS work around with the new TCU!

I'm interested to know how you have resolved the BMW assist issues. I wouldn't mind sorting mine out too. Does yours show the correct colour?

Interesting what your experiencing with your lights... Your 7 is US spec and you have fitted euro lights?

You say just the inner indicator bulbs are working? I had this exact issue when I fitted the new light module. It was because the light module was from an E60. Coding the module with the expert profile fixed this! (it wouldn't code at first, only once I'd re-flashed with WinKFP?)

Maybe worth looking at the wiring for the US and euro spec lights, they maybe wired slightly differently as the euro ones don't have the markers.

I like the corner markers! We dont get that here in the UK! We should have swapped headlights! (not sure if they will be any good here, have you fitted LHD euro lights? Or can the beam be adjusted to either?)

I can post my original LMA trace file for my euro lights if you like? Luckily I saved a copy before I fried it! It's on my laptop so you will have to wait two hours till I get home.

Somewhere in the coding file, (I have no idea where I've been through it many times, even mapped out the hex data to find hidden functions!) is the config data for the outputs, I.e. which LMA output drives what light, I'm sure this is where your issue is if the wiring is the same. I will have another look for you later.

Stuart, good to hear from you as well. I wasn't having any issues with the retrofit of the headlights until I swapped out the P21 turn signal bulbs for the white 6000K LED's. (All my interior and exterior bulbs have been switched to LED with no issues. (except the door handles since i don't want to pull the doors apart, but I did read an article where someone has found the bulbs being made in LED). I didn't even have to disable the check control or hot or cold monitoring. I don't think it's a wiring issue, but may be a voltage issue since I thought I saw different (PWM) values when looking through my LMA trace file. I think the inside ones had a value of wert_01 and the outer wert_02. I don't have WinKFP to flash the LMA. I will try coding the LMA with the Expert profile later tonight or tomorrow if I can and report back. Weird that we both have E60 LMA's.

I would appreciate your old trace file from the LMA that I helped you fry PM me later tonight or when you have time and I'll give you my email so we can swap trace files.

What do you mean does mine show the correct color?

Stuart, when I looked under vehicle in BMW Assist yesterday, it showed my correct VIN, but doesn't show the color of my car. I do remember that others have seen he color as red. I will take another look today to see if I overlooked anything.

Thanks for the trace file. Immediately I notice that you are using the E65_C02 module for coding. Is that on the E60 LMA that you are using now or your old E65 LMA? On my E60 LMA mine is using the LM_E60_C0E module to code.

One thing I notice is that you have the following:

I didn't change these values and your PWM_ANSTEUERUNG_BLK_V_L (Pulse-Width Modulation for the front left turn signals) and PWM_ANSTEUERUNG_BLK_V_R (Pulse-Width Modulation for the front right turn signals) has the same value of wert_01

My PWM_ANSTEUERUNG_BLK_V (Pulse-Width Modulation for front turn signals) and PWM_ANSTEUERUNG_BLK_V_2 (Pulse-Width Modulation for front turn signals 2) have different values. Now for some reason the LMA from the E60 in my car doesn't do left and right like yours, but rather 1 and 2 which I take to mean 1 are the inner turn signals that are working, and 2 which are the outer with the wert_02 value that aren't working.

If you are able to post your trace of the E60 LMA that you recently retrofitted I'm curious if the values are the same as mine, or if they are the same as your E65 LMA.

If I misunderstood anything about your trace file please let me know. I will look at my BMW Assist again to confirm that I don't have anything relating to color where it shows my correct VIN. Do you have the option to initialize the BMW Assist service or is that greyed out? Is your TCU showing your correct VIN?

As for the Auto P issue, I spoke to Paper last night and he was kind enough to explain what he did to successfully get it working for another forum member. He used Expert Mode to reset the following modules: MMI, CAS, KOMBI, TCU. Then he did a read of the entire car which is what he meant by re-synching. Make sure you are just doing a READ of all the modules and not writing anything at this point. Also make sure you have a backup of each before you do so you can get any changes you've made back after the procedure. I haven't tried it yet, but I will later today and I will report back everything. Hopefully I will have Auto P back and all 4 of my turn signal LED bulbs will be working.

Correct, the trace file I posted is from my original LMA supplied with the car at manufacture (Oct 2001). I made no changes, I backed up a load of modules to see what coding can be changed.

Regarding the assist, I have my NAV currently coded for no TCU, havent got round to doing it yet! but when I did have it going and showing the correct VIN most of it was greyed out.

When I chaged the Pulse-Width Modulation for the inner front turn signals (the ones that are working) from wert_02 to wert_01 they stopped working. They have 3 possible values where as the outer turn signals only have 2 values to choose from, but when I changed them from wert_01 to wert_02 they still didn't work.

I don't understand why both sets of turn signals that use the identical bulb type don't function the same way, nor do they have the same options (the inner have 3, wert_01, wert_02, and wert_03. The outer turn signals only have 2 (wert_01, and wert_02).

I'm not sure what options I have at this point other than putting the amber bulbs back in and give up the dream of all LED lighting (minus the damn door handles). Any suggestions would be appreciated.

P.S. -Still working with Paper on getting the modules synced. We are supposed to use Expert Mode to reset the CAS, KOMBI, MMI, and TCU, and then READ all the modules to get them to communicate with each other. Unfortunately I couldn't figure out how to get NCS Expert to read all the modules at once to accomplish this. Paper is going to get back to me when he remembers the sequence he went through to get it to work. I'll post back after he lets me know. I wish INPA had an option to sync all modules.

You have an E60 LMA? And euro headlights. Can you post the part number of your LMA and what coding files its using? Please accept my apologies if you already have!

And you have taken the standard bulbs out and fitted LED versions, do these have integrated resistors or anything like that to fool the bulb check?

I will compare headlight wiring and coding later on this evening, the wiring could be different for the two versions of headlight due to the drl markers.

Stuart, sorry I haven't gotten back. I've been busy with a new startup that is taking more of my time than I would like. I do have an E60 LMA using a coding index of LM_E60.C0E. The part number of the lights I purchased on eBay are:

I have replaced the LED bulbs with the standard P21W amber bulbs for the time being. When doing so I realized that they actually take PY21W bulbs (same as P21W but with a 150 degree offset on the 2 bottom pins). Here is the odd part. I somehow got the P21W LED bulbs to fit and they work in the middle two holders, but not the outside ones in question. (very hard to get out though) I'm hoping this is the problem so I ordered 2 PY21W LED bulbs and they will be here sometime next week. I'm hopeful this should end that problem. On a side note I have disabled all monitoring of the front turn signals this entire time to rule out the issue that the car is expecting bulbs with a higher wattage than the LED produce, and I refuse to put resistors inline to trick the car. All of this being said if the new bulbs don't fix the issue I will just end up keeping the amber bulbs (after spraying them with I fine mist of silver spray paint so I don't see the ugly amber bulbs through the clear plastic).

Next issue was the Auto P. Based on information given to me by Paper I went through the following procedure:

1. Reset the CAS, KOMBI, MMI, TCU modules in that order using the expert profile. Then without leaving NCS Expert or changing profiles I read both the CAS and LMA using the FA_READ job (Not READ ECU). Unfortunately this didn't give me back my Auto P functionality so I tried it again still with no luck. After this I just changed to the Fister profile and restored each of my modules from the backups I made prior to starting this. You might have better luck than I did so it might be worth a try.

I know what I'm writing now isnt really part of this thread, but I needed some advice, and I have a lot of respect for the people I talk with in this forum but especially this thread.

I have had my front and rear struts replaced on my 2003 745Li with 90k miles. I used an Indy mechanic that some may be familiar with on this forum since he also does coding in the NYC area. I like o buy my own parts since I can get what I want and save money also. Here is the problem. I had this Indy mechanic replace the front struts and bumps and then the rear. Prior to doing so I had the front control arms replaced a few months before by a different mechanic before I started working with the person from this forum. He has always been nice and polite and done good work. I mentioned to him when I brought the parts (OEM) if I needed anything else and he said no. Well the car drives much better since the shocks/struts were definitely in need of replacement. I do find that when driving even at slow speeds over rough road or over even a small pothole I feel a lot of vibration and noise especially in the front. When driving over smooth road she drives like a dream. I happened to get a small crack in one of my rims, and after getting the rim repaired close to my home (Indy mechanic is about 40 minutes away). I asked the owner who is also a certified mechanic if he knew of a reason why I would be having this problem. He took the car for a test drive and then asked if the mechanic had replaced the strut mounts when he did the work. I answered no, and he shook his head and said that is your problem. I asked would the entire assembly have to be removed to replace the mounts, and he replaced yes and that the labor would be the same as if I was replacing the struts again. The part is very cheap $50 US each for the front and rear pairs. The labor is the major cost. I thanked the guy and immediately contacted the Indy mechanic to see why he didn't replace the strut mounts while he was already there, and he said he inspected them and they were fine.

I have a few questions. Considering how cheap the parts are and how expensive the labor is to have to go back later to replace these mounts, should they have been replaced anyway? 2. The mechanic told me that the problem couldn't be due to this anyway. Since the front control arms were replace very recently what else is the next possible culprit if he is correct and the problem is coming from another damaged or worn part? I asked him before I come all the way down there what was he prepared to do if it were the mounts. He didn't answer. I like the guy and his work, but I'm not paying twice for him to do this if it should have been done when the struts were replaced, and even if it is another part(s) causing the issue I still think he should have told me that the mounts should be replaced at the same time due to the high cost associated with replacing them later. I haven't used his name because if I'm wrong I don't want him to be affected.

hey Guys,

i need some help.
I successfully retrofittet the TCU 1.5 in my 04 745i, removed the SA633 and added the SA #638 to my Vehicle.
I also managed to change the VIN in my TCU 1.5 device using Tool32.

I can read error codes, codings etc. from the control unit but i am unable to write a new configuration (even if its blank) using the "sg_codieren" job.

had same problem and in my case the TCU was faulty unfortunately
