still no joy

Hi. I know you have a life so I totally appreciate your even taking a second to look at this. I didn't try opening it in a browser, but when I open it in Excel, with security properly enabled, it still says that business about not being able to exit design mode because there is something wrong with the mileage upfront thing. I have tossed it and downloaded another copy three times; no luck. I really really need this thing and am not sure what to do.

Open Excel and go to Tools > Options > Security

Click on Macro Security

What option is chosen? It should be at "medium" which will cause it to ask you if you want to enable or disable macros upon opening a spreadsheet which contains macros.

Red face

Webguy: I figured out that if I can enter a password into this thing I can override the error that I am getting and enter figures manually onto the second page. Could you maybe email me the password for this document so that I can Unprotect Sheets? Thanks - glennmcgee (mcgee AT mac DOT com)

Did you know only rows 10 - 15 for options under the Car Configuration sheet tab are included in the formula for subtotals? I entered as many options as I could and then planned to delete various ones to come up with different scenarios, when I noticed something didn't look right.

Yikes, no I didn't!

Good thing this is just in beta mode... huhuhuh

I'll fix that and post an update shortly.

OK! I updated the spreadsheet. It also now includes gas guzzler and luxo tax input cells, and calculates ALL the options you might be entering.

v1.06

Unprotected version?

Any chance we can get a version that isn't protected?

I live in NY - and the lease taxes are due up front (hooks in the spreadsheet for this) - but in NY, we are taxed on the finance charges as well... So the taxes are on the payments, not the principal of the loan. (Pay up front for all taxes on the payments through the term of the lease)

I'd like to mod the spreadsheet if possible... Or if it could make it into 1.07 - fine

TY

Hey man, got your email, I will make some modifications to accomodate you strange NY'ers. Who is still leasing there anyhow?

I would release it unlocked but I'm trying to keep the thing central here, rather than having it pop up on google "created" by everyone else.

OK guys I've updated it to v1.07, have a look and let me know if anything is wrong. I'll be launching a site for this pretty soon so it'll all be purty and html-ized.

Hi. I just checked out your lease spreadsheet, it's great but it doesn't take into account the tax calculation for states like Texas, where the entire vehicle's purchase price is taxed regardless if you are leasing or buying...any chance you could add it or give me a non-password protected version so I could make the change myself....?

thanks!

I cannot get the spreadsheet to work. I can change the values on the Car Configuration sheet, but they do not get imported into the cells on the Lease Details sheet. I can't change ANY of the the required cells on the Lease Details sheet because they are locked.

I turned macro security all the way down to low -- that's not the problem I don't think.

I'm a total newbie when it comes to Excel, so I'm sorry if this is something really obvious!

Hey guys!

I'm sorry about the excel issues. Really excel was a poor choice to start this out with. Too many variables/versions to deal with, not enough consistency to be sure that everyone can use it, etc.

I am going to be developing a website specifically for this kind of 'research' so stay tuned!!

How accurate is the lease calculator posted here - the numbers I'm getting back rom the dealer is significantly different than being plugged into the tool - no offense to the great work done - just if someone who has the knowledge to do a manual comparison it would be great.
Wait - the posting below must be the issue.

Has the calculator been upgraded anywhere to reflect states where you get bent over with sales tax on the full purchase price of the car?

You can't upload it directly to 'Fest...it isn't one of the sanctioned files. You need to upload to some other public server and provide us the link to that.

Give this a try. I took a picture of the spreadsheet, and added text boxes (colored in flesh tone) to provide the formula. Excel has the ability to compute lease payments, and I just added the other info. In Ontario, taxes are added to the lease payment, after everything else is calculated. I suppose this will require entering all the info into a spreadsheet, but it makes for an quick and accurate calculator. Good luck.

Can you change the name of the file to something sanctioned like a .jpg and then ask folks to save it as a .xls.

Here it is as a .jpg. Try to save it as an .xls file though I don't think that'll work. If not, I'd be glad to email it as an excel file to anyone interested.
