Comfort Access

My doors open when I touch the door handles, but they don't lock when I touch them the same way. Is there a setting in the i-drive that needs to be changed? My car is a 2012 535xi. Thanks for your input.

Grasp any door handle to open and press or place any finger on the "noticeable ridges" on any door handle to lock...works instantly! I should add that these ridges appear on top at the rear of the handles.

OMG, some of these threads....

Can't believe the dealer let you on your way w/o explaining such basic things. In fact, you should have seen them on your test drives long before taking ownership.

Nevermind.

Frankly the comfort access is lacking. I find it very much a pain to wait for it to work when locking. My MB's locked the second you touched the handle, I normally have to hit the lines on the handle twice to get it to lock....

DUH!!! My mistake. I realized that all you have to do is put one finger on the ridges of the door handle. I was grasping the entire door handle----like I did in my E60. Works fine now. Thank you all.

My rep was outstanding, showed me so much about the car (like... how to lock it ) that I could hardly remember. No wonder, he wanted to impress me. How else can you sell a $60k car?

Anyhow, he was all glowing when he demoed comfort access to me (and sold me on it in just .2 seconds), so it's beyond me how one can have it and have no clue how to use it (no offense OP, apparently your salesman was a moron, how you bough a car from him is another story )

Oh, then I had a 1-hr feature tour upon delivery. The car was running all 60 minutes so the battery would not go dead. He paired my iPhone to iDrive and the whole nine yards. Maybe my dealer was rather unique? I hope not...

Problem solved!

Personally, I very much like Comfort Access; I also have the auto-close doors...I am always reminded of how civilized these features are when I switch cars!

If you have soft-close doors you have to wait until it cycles before locking the doors with or without comfort access. If you don't have soft-close doors there should be no delay.

It still takes forever- even after closing fully I have to usually hit it twice. After seeing how flawless it works on MB and Audis it is frustrating to live with the BMW system...

Hmmm. When I use it, as I did this morning, it's a matter of tenths of seconds. The internal motors close the door, I press my finger on the ridges, and the doors all lock and the car alarm arms. If you're having to wait or press twice, something is wrong.

I've always been surprised when people struggle with comfort access. I have found the system to be completely flawless. Hasn't malfunctioned once. It is quick and flawless.

I suspect those who are having issues are either:
1) Not using it right
2) Having a faulty sensor which needs to be replaced
