Negotiating beyond the initial sale price
Just curious to see if anyone has tried negotiating a discount for future parts during the sale of their car?
I was thinking about this since the 550xi that I'm going to purchase doesn't have a spare tire/rim. Once I replace the run-flat tires with performance tires, I'll want to get a spare and I know the rims aren't cheap. Frankly, nothing at the dealer is cheap! So, I was thinking of trying to negotiate a discount on all future parts purchased through the dealer. I've been successful in this approach with vendors for my business, I've just never heard of anyone doing it with a car dealer - not that I've ever asked anyone about it. What do you think? |

I think it's not worth the hassle. The initial purchase is already complicated due to their a la carte pricing structure. If you got a decent deal on an 70k car, you are potentially adding complexity into the situation that may kill the deal over some 3k rims. Not worth it, just try and find rims or parts later, plenty that will fit your car in the OEM, used or aftermarket.

It's not just the rims that I'm considering. I have no idea what else I may want to purchase in the future.
Further, I already negotiated the price of the car earlier today, so I don't think this will effect the deal. |

BMWCCA members get 10% off parts...doubt if you're going to get any better on a flat discount - there is no incentive for any parts dept to do that. Some dealers advertise higher discounts on other parts (such as wheels), so shopping around on an ad hoc basis may save you some money.

When you say that BMWCCA members get 10% off parts, is this off retail or dealer cost? Last edited by jjscott; 02-14-2012 at 03:45 PM. |

10% off retail. I can't believe a dealer would agree to that...

Dealers who sell parts at 10% off their cost become Carpet Warehouses.

No one said they are selling parts 10% off their cost.
I said they agreed to sell me parts at their cost. The other poster said his club discount was 10% off retail |

My dealer gave me a discount card of 20% to be used on parts & apparel at the dealer for one year starting at car purchase date.
