So I got the runaround from BMW Assist that they can't help me with the fact that my app says it is locked. If I just ask them to change my password will that fix the issue?

Thanks in advance

Cars location or status should not matter. May be an issue with Google on your phone as opposed to the BMW app.

Yup, the Apps can even locate my car when I park inside my garage at home...I initially thought it has to be at the open area

Mein Auto: I'm still dreaming....
Does the app allow me to start the car, or cool the interior down before arriving at the car?

Not working for me.
The App gives me the following error msg, anyone knows how/where to fix it? It seems to accept my BMWassist account/password just fine, but it appears to check some kind of security question I guess.

"ERROR: Secret knowledge might not be activated. Please go to ConnectedDrive portal to activate your secret knowledge."

Where in the world should the secret knowledge is? That is not the one in BMWusa/MyBMW either.

Help please.

I just spoke with BMW assist. The security question is simply your passcode again. If your passcode is a word it is in all caps.

Thanks for the hints Amy. I call BMW assist, and they said the same thing. And since my account was locked up (and hence that error msg appeared), they will have to reset it, and ask me to wait for 24 hours.

Works fine without all caps

Just downloaded the app and typed in the email address in lower case along with the password and set up a pin. It was accepted and I can flash the lights and blow the horn. Since I have two BMWs, a 535 and 650, they both show up on a list to choose the vehicle I want to unlock, flash etc.

I just press the big red SOS button near the rear view mirror, and it talks to BMWassist people and fix the issue.

FYI to those who haven't tried the app yet...

Tried logging in, but couldn't so the app locked me out after multiple incorrect attempts. Called BMW assist and turns out they spelled my password wrong on setup.

So keep in this in mind before you get frustrated and give up. As someone said earlier, you are at the mercy of those who set up your account whether or not your login works.

Worked first time. Your user name is the email you likely gave BMW assist on setup. The passcode was given to you at that time - likely 4 numbers. Seems to locate the car just fine. Now if you could just get remote start....

Same story here but I am on my 3rd try waiting until 4pm tonight (24 hours) to try again. If it does not login then I have to call back before I lock the account. Apparently email is in uppercase and password if it has characters.

I downloaded the app last night, and as I was taking to BMW Assist I had them change the password, It took effect in literally one or two minutes (to the tech's surprise); he had warned me it could take 24 hrs. My account name is/was not case sensitive, but the password was. He was going to enter the password in all upper case, but I asked for lower case - in other words, it's user definable. Best thing to do if you're unsure is simply to press the SOS button in the car and talk to BMW Assist.

That is exactly why when I bought my car, I asked my salesman to let ME type the information on the computer, to avoid any mishaps...

Has anyone else noticed that according to the app "The anti-theft warning system is not activated when the car is locked." Italics are mine. WT@ Sure hope that is a misprint. Anyone know for sure?

There seems to be some confusion here about the password vs. PIN.

There are two separate things going on.

1) You username (email address) and password are your BMW Assist email address and password. The password can be any word or numbers or a combination. In my case I set it up when I purchased the vehicle and it's someone's name. If you push call BMW Assist from your car, the password is the one you have to give to them.

2) The first time you "get in to" the app by providing the above mentioned username and password you need to set up a PIN. The app remembers your username and password and you only have to provide the PIN from now on to get in. This 4 digit PIN number is a ***new*** phone-specific PIN that you set up after you get into the app. This PIN number only lives on your iPhone and has nothing to do with BMW Assist. It's just so that someone else can't pick up your phone and start messing with your car.

Worked out in 5 min. Here's how and it's like what others have said

I used email with caps on. The same pw has to be entered twice (when it says security question)

I did call the number listed on download app page. Do read what it says. BMW assist, like always helped me out immediately

Enjoy the new toy. Would love to have climate control
