Not bad. The difference in power compared to the n54, at least, is very apparent in the quarter mile time and trap speed.

Wow is that possible?
I would expect a turbo 4 to be somewhere in the high 6 or even 7. If it does 5.6 that is amazing! Now I really want to know what 335 can do.

Well what do you expect for 150 miles of hard driving, as they clearly state. They did manage 30.6 MPG on the highway @ 80 mile per hour...

That is disappointing.
Than what's the point of getting the 335 if it's only .3 sec faster

You would be out of your mind to think that the N52 wouldn't return worse MPG for the kind of abuse they have put this N20 thru

BMW brochure states 5.7 with the manual and 5.9 with the auto for the 328. The 335 is 5.4 for both.

Its so funny how everyone is caught up by the numbers. I find it very hard to believe that anyone is going to complain about driving either car, unless you are taking it to the track. And if so, how good of driver are you?
I loved every bit of my N54 335i and I know the N55 is different, but if its even close then I am really going to enjoy my car. We could all get dodge charger R/T pluses and have faster 0-60 times, but what kind of fun would that be? BMW engineers excellence and if you cannot appreciate it then ask yourself if you want a BMW or something else. I can tell you that I would be happier in a BMW 328i than a dodge charger R/T, Camaro SS, or Mustang GT. Its not all about power, its about how the package is put together. BMW is like Apple, where art meets technology. (Even though Steve Jobs drove a Mercedes)

Read more: http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...#ixzz1mVbW4RRL And you must have missed this too, quote "What the numbers don't tell you is just how good it is to drive. There are more than a few cars out there that put down big numbers but aren't all that great to drive." Another one sulking

It's not just the N20. A good case study would be to determine what percentage of it's posts are either argumentative, pessimistic, or just plain obstinate.
I'm guessing 85%, but that may be too low.

Hrmm... another (+) in the auto-tranni column assuming they weren't doing a brake-stand to get that value.
The C&D tester's hand-written notes for their fastest 0-60 run (which was slower than this report btw) in a 328i manual was something to the effect of 'rev the engine to 5K then step off [dump] the clutch'. But now, if this is achieved w/the auto tranni w/o needing to do a brake-stand ... well, that's impressive. |

That was a manual trans., I wonder what they would get with the new eight speed auto? It seems competitive with the manual in speed runs now.

correct, historically manuals can achieve faster 0-60 times than autos(not DCT)...should be interesting what a 335 auto tests out as well as a 328 manual

30.6mpg @ 80MPH is not that impressive and a far cry from the 36mpg. I'm not sure people didn't see that with the N52 E90. It's better than my N54 335i, but not by very much. I can do about 28.7MPG @ 80MPH in my N54 E90.
Of course the engine may do better once fully broken in but probably not 36 @ 80. The 36 is probably at 55 or something that no one really drives.

John,
I can't comment on your experiences, but let's remember they are using a computer readout, on an unbroken in engine, and who knows how they were truly driving. I will say that I've been able to consistently hit or exceed EPA highway estimates nowadays at real-world speeds of 70mph averages. Usually without using cruise control either. In all modern cars I've driven.
