Quality of Materials

Hello,

Are the materials in the M3 such as the leather seats and plastics of higher quality than in the standard 3-series models?

Thanks!!

My leather is better compared to my wife's 2011 328i.

What options and packages would you recommend were you to purchase a new M3 based on which you've learned with your current one?

I would regard the Competition Package as mandatory -
everything else is personal preference.

The M3 world is a nice world - a world of only good choices....

The M3 is a sublime driving experience.

Is the M3 the preferred choice over the MB C63?

All the plastics are exactly the same in all 3-Series and M3.

M3 Novillo leather is supposed to be of better quality than the Dakota on the 3-Series, but I disagree. Novillo may have a smoother grain and feeling to the touch than Dakota but it ages like paper towels in no time. It will get shiny and show wear marks faster than Dakota.

I know, I'm on my second M3 since 2008.

What I did when I bought my second M3 was to fix all the little things that I did not get/like from my first M3 Sedan 6sp bought at my local dealer: European Delivery, Individual interior, M-DCT, ZCP, Coupe.

If all you do is go straight and press the loud pedal, no

If you know how to drive a car skillfully, YES

So the Novillo leather requires more care? How do you care for your seats?

Thanks for your valuable advice. Would you go for the competition package?

The competition pkg. gets you very nice looking wheels and electronically controlled suspension. BMW offered it at no cost to me as part of a buyback settlement but I declined. I prefer a one "setting" nicely tuned passive suspension to an electronic setup with several settings to choose from. And the day you either need to replace dampers or wish to add after market suspension parts it will be cheaper and easier with the passive suspension. The day of passive suspension in performance cars is likely numbered, the market asks for "change the car at the touch of a button" so this could be the last chance in an M as it is with the high revving NA V8. Some prefer the active dampers others don't care but just want the wheels. It's a nice pkg. for most but mandatory is a bit strong, you need to try both if you are particular about the suspension. The M3 comes with everything standard that makes this car an icon so no I don't see any must haves just personal preferences in trims and functions.

It's not like for example an E60 where the sports pkg. transforms the car from a luxury sedan to a canyon carver, this is an M it comes ready to play in any form.

Just keep your leather clean/conditioned and pay attention on how you enter and exit the car. Belts can transfer the black dye to the seats if you aggressively adjust the lumbar support or/and the bolsters.

As stated above, I went with the ZCP (Competition Package). Mostly because of the 10mm drop so I do not have to lower it with aftermarket springs as I always do with all my cars.

My suggestion is to test drive an M3 as close as possible to your personal specs/taste. It does not matter what makes anyone happy here if it does not make you happy with your purchase.

I use Zaino leather conditioner on my seats. Mine still look great. I have Fox Red extended. The driver's seat is a little shinier in the cushion area, but jeez, the car is 4 years old now. There are no black marks on my seat.

My car didn't come with the Technology package so I don't have EDC. If I did, I would more than likely put it on one setting and leave it. The wheels are nice on the Comp Pkg, it sits 10mm lower, and the car is more unique. I certainly don't view it as mandatory but if you have the money, getting one of the last NA V8 M3s with Comp Pkg would probably be the way to go.

I always want the nav for the ipod/sirius/bluetooth interface. The high end stereo sounds great, but it does cost too much. If I order another a 2013 later this year, right now I would do Space Gray, Fox Red leather with Carbon Leather Trim, 6-speed, Premium Pkg, Heated Seats, Moonroof, Sirius, and probably Comp Pkg. I'm hoping they add something special for the last year.

Great input! I thought ZCP was the cold weather package.

The car sure looks bad-ass with the competition package, just wondering if this feature makes the car comfortable enough as a daily driver.

One would believe that the competition package is more comfortable as a daily driver. You have a comfort setting on the EDC. The 19" wheels don't feel too harsh when set on comfort. The non-EDC car comes set to what equates to Sport on EDC. EDC you can back down to Comfort or up to Sport+. Daily driving in comfort is what I do. I live in northern Ohio where the roads can be like driving on the Moon. I think you have less of a chance of damaging suspension components and or tires/wheels if you accidently catch a bad hole when rolling in Sport or Sport+. When it comes time to have fun, I just hit the M button with everything cranked up and away I go.

Again, test drive one and you will know for sure.

This is my daily-driven M3 ZCP with 20"... it rides to me not that different than when it had the ZCP 19" wheels:

What interior color/material is in your beautiful motorsport?

Is the exterior color pure black or does it have undertone colors?

Love those yellow brakes!
