Post We finally take delivery of the Project 328i and get a chance to hit the open road!

We are extremely excited that we were able to take delivery of the Bimmerfest / F30Driver project 328i at BMW of Morristown today! After months of waiting, we finally had a chance to hit the open road with our 2012 BMW 3 Series 328i and it was well worth the wait to drive the car. A big THANK YOU goes out to Jon Shafer at BMW of Santa Barbara and Mike Wendroff from BMW of Morristown for setting up Courtesy Delivery of the car in New Jersey.

We know that you are probably anxious to get some initial feedback on the car so we'll give some quick bullet points before we head back out to work on getting the car broken in....
  • This car is actually really fun to drive. It is not as fast as the 335i by any stretch but you can tell from just driving it about 100 miles that it is going to be a ton of fun, especially when you can run up through the RPM range without worrying about the break in period
  • There is a lot of technology on this car and it is going to take quite some time to fully test it out. In fact, we may need to spend a good portion of the night just reading up in the manual about how some of the functions do work!
  • The car looks great in person and it looks even better in motion. The Melbourne Red really sticks out in the crowd and has been turning heads already. We are hoping it doesn't get any attention that we don't want
  • The HUD is as good as I was hoping for and I think I had high expectations. I especially liked the navigation integrated into the HUD display as it made it much more natural to see the direction of an exit in the HUD instead of the navigation screen

Enjoy the video and couple pictures...we are going out to enjoy driving the car some more and will have a follow up after we get more miles on the odometer.

There is a pic of a manual shifter in this thread.

Txs for this little video. There is hope for that engine note, nothing that a little exhaust couldn't fix.

The car is a 6-speed and it has been a blast to drive even though it is REALLY hard to keep the foot off the pedal during the break in period. We have 254 miles on the car and we are getting ready to head out for the day to try and put some more miles on so we can start really driving it.

We have a ton of feedback about the car that we will be posting in the next day or two but let us know any specific questions that we can answer for you.

If you haven't taken a trip to your dealer to test drive one of these cars ... make some time today to go do it!

I went to see the new 3 this weekend. BMW has taken a very conservative approach on advancing the new 4door. From 20 feet away you really can't distinguish the rear of the new 3 from the E90. The interior has been redone completely but the gage cluster looks the same as before. Nothing in the interior makes you go wow that's nice! Was hoping the guys in Munchen would catch up or pass Audi's exterior and interior styling while holding onto the driving dynamics. Maybe the new M3s will be more exciting to look at. No reason to trade my '10 335 E92 yet.

I'm a little disappointed with the cheap looking flat black side mirrors. I believe it's a cost cutting measure to be able to use the same color mirrors on every car.

Why all this gushng? Sounds fishy. It's a BMW. It's a fabulous car. Why try to hype it? It's not necessary or useful. The car sells itself, as long as you tell the buyers all about it.

Are you aware that the overwhelming majority of your posts in all of the forums are hyper-critical/derrogatory?

Maybe critical (How could any sensible person not be?) Not hypercritical by any reasonable standards.

They're not flat black. And only available on the sport-line trim. Otherwise theyre the color of the car.
