Z3 gas leak when pumping.
There's been a few times when I go to pump gas & I find a puddle of gas form beneath the gas cap. I haven't had time to check it out. I'm guessing something is loose or there might be a hole in plastic.
Has anyone experienced this? Please provide any information you think will help. Thanks |

On the ground or in the car?

After the gas pump nozzle clicks off automatically, do you add additional gas?

A puddle forms in the little area under the gas cap. No leak in or under the car.
& no. It happens at random whenever I put any amount of gas. |

Are you sure that the liquid there is gas and not rain/wash water? Could be the drain hose below the gas cap area is plugged...run a thin wire or skewer through it and see if that solves the problem. Normally, gas overflow would go into the charcoal cannister.

But, be gentle. I've read of people either ripping the drain hose or pushing the drain hose off.
Part of my car wash routine is checking and cleaning the gas cap area drain hole. |

I use string trimmer line to clear the drain line.

It's not water that for sure. It's gasoline. It forms a puddle on the plastic charcoal color area under the gas cap. I think they're might be something loose or a small hole.
I'll check it tomorrow morning & give you an update. |

Is the car throwing any codes?
A loose gas cap will throw a code. So, anything loose or a small hole should also throw a code. Also, the tank is one piece. Check out the pic at http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...05&hg=16&fg=05 Up at the gas cap, other than the gas cap itself, there is nothing to be loose. |

i keep getting an emissions code. it may be the gas cap. does anyone know where i can find a replacement gasket for the gas cap?
after 15 years the original is hard and cracked. i'm thinking this may be the reason for the code. |

Uhh, any BMW dealer?
bmwwpartzdirect.com sells the gasket for a $1.68 - http://www.trademotion.com/parts/ind...&siteid=214760 But with a MSRP of $2.10, why not splurge at your local dealer? |

thanks doug. i live in a small town in the middle of the howling desert, far from a dealer.
i went to the website and tried to order a gasket but the $1.68 went to $11.18 with shipping. there are some drawbacks to living in the howling desert. |
