2003 BMW 325i M56(SULEV) Fuel Tank Help

Hey guys just ran into a problem with my fuel pump in this car. Ive read about and was told that its a sealed tank and the repair cost wouldnt justify getting it fixed, which i agree fully. i was doing some searches on some used fuel tanks for this model, and my question to you guys is does it have to be the SULEV tank or can i use a regular M54 model? and if so is it just the tank and pump i have to replace or is it more?

If you have the curse of a SULEV, it would be a federal offense to downgrade the antipollution capabilities of the car by putting in regular parts. However, as I understand it, the SULEV tank/pump assembly has an automatic extended warranty. So I'd check with a resposible dealer first to see if they will do the replacement for free.

Hello Jayc4sc, did you have any luck with your fuel pump/gas tank. I'm in the same fix and not sure what to do; the cost of a new gas tank is 7-8K which is too much especially since it seems as if SULEV's have really pricey parts across the board? Any advice would be great, thx

Jay, the regulation still technically applies in that it's a federal offence to alter the emissions regulators on a vehicle. However, you could fit an m52 tank and no one in Florida is going to check. As long as your car can pass state emissions test, no one will ever even ask if it's a SULEV.

The choice is yours.
