Real world fuel economy?
For the lucky people who have already taken delivery, what kind of fuel consumption are you getting? Does the Eco-Pro mode provide significant savings?
Thanks! |

Diving 2012 328i since Feb 8
I drive in Silicon Valley - so I get a mix of highway at 60-75mph, stop and go highway and city driving. In Eco Pro mode at 60-75 mph, I get about 40mpg. Over 600 miles iDrive indicates I am getting 29.2 mpg.
The car has the 8 speed auto and is the Luxury model - not sport option. I have been using Eco Pro mode mainly for highways - stop and go and 60-75mph (except enter and exit of the highway), otherwise I use Sport mode. |

It'd be nice if the F30 owners would log their miles on Fuelly.com

Getting 24.4 mpg on my 328i according to the trip computer for 149 miles driven mostly in sport mode around Dallas. Never exceeded 3500 rpm, but did crack a few speed limits about town. OK, all of the speed limits.

Most people are still in break-in so it's hard to get real fuel economy numbers. I did a 324 mile drive in the Bimmerfest Project 328i 6 speed using mostly eco-pro. My speed averaged out to 68.9 mph and my fuel economy was 32.8mpg. Not bad considering I hit traffic and was driving in 4th, 5th and 6th to move the RPMs around for break-in. I think high 30s would have been easy with better conditions and the ability to set cruise control around 74 and idle along at 2600-ish RPMs in 6th.
The 328i will get fantastic gas mileage, I know it. And 242hp and 275 ft-lbs (Bimmerfest Project 328i dyno) is just a driver experience button press away

The 0.29 Cd sure helps all this too. Hate how bad the Cd is of the Minis.

Okay, 32.8 and it's not broken in so this may not be a fair observation. But my 530i/MT delivers 29-30 consistently at average speeds of 70-75 and that's with frequent speed and gear changes. Given the technological advances of the N20 motor, I hope 328i's efficiency delta is better than that.

335i: mostly city traffic = ~24 mpg

When you have it in SPORT MODE during city driving, how much higher are the shift points with a normal foot? Obviously if you floor it, your shift points will be alot higher (RedLine), but I was wondering about have it in SPORT MODE and pressing it with a less spirited foot.

Just filled up for the first time. The first tank was 22.73 mpg. That's about 2 mpg up on what I would get in my former N54 135i. I have been doing a mix of highway and city driving almost completely in sport mode.

Would you say you have a heavy foot compared to a average driver?

Probably but it's rated at 23 combined and I'm right there. It will only improve as the engine loosens up. Lots of idling on that first tank too.

Any idea, then, why the bump in mpg?

bump from my 135?
The N55 is more fuel efficient than the N54. |

Curious to know what you're averaging in dense, urban traffic. My 530i gets only 15 mpg in L.A surface streets no matter how I drive.

Here are some new data points for you guys. To San Antonio in Eco Slow mode and back in Sport.

Not that much different and not bad for a 335i. I would not expect the MPG to be that much different if you are driving on the freeway in ECO Mode versus Sport. Also you were going 3 MPH faster in SPORT mode. Unless by putting it into ECO drops the RPM's even further, the results should be the same on a flat ground freeway drive between Austin and San Antonio.

That's a fraction better than my 530i, which only has a 6 speed.
