I drive problems
Need help, we are having a very strange problem with our I-drive. (controller) when you start the vehicle the I-drive will not respond, after driving about 15 miles it works, as if nothing was ever wrong. It was doing it before we replaced the battery, it stopped doing it after they put in the new battery, until it had sat for a few days. Now the problem is back. When you push the center button on the I-drive no response for the first 15 miles. Any suggestions?? http://s1.bimmerfest.com/forums/images/smilies/iono.gif

The I-drive doesn't respond
We tried the Volume button, but it didn't do anything except change the volume and mute. I think I have read something about this before, but it seams like you need to push 2 different buttons to get this function. I have been looking for the article. But thank you so much for trying.

I'd have the dealer reload the entire nav/audio software system...

Try this: The CCC can be reset by simultaneously pressing and holding the eject buttons on the DVD and CD player and the rotary push button for approximately 10 seconds. The CID becomes blank. The CCC is then restarted. I would still take it in to the dealer but worth a shot. |

I am having a similar problem, the I drive button does not work and the all of a sudden starts ringing Radom phone numbers. My phone is connected by blue tooth.
The rotate up and down works fine but the push seems to have a contact problem, anyone actually fixed this? My thought is that I will have to replace the button probably due to worn out or corroded contacts? |

^^does the button have this 'erroneous" behaviour when NOT CONNECTED TO A PHONE???
Trying to separate between a bluetooth/phone/software issue and a 'electrical button' issue....

It doesn't select the setting menu sometimes.
I will try with out the phone connected and see what happens. |

Well it still is random when the phone is not connected

I'd suspect the iDrive controller and something being spilled on it in the past.

Redskin- Any chance something was spilled? DO keep in mind that- at least here in the USA- dealer mechanics ONLY replace parts. Personally, I'd pop out the control and blast it rpeatedly wiuth electronics contact cleaner- might work, save you some $$$.

Yes. Google.
Really, there are probably a dozen places where people have posted notes about removing the idrive control, upgrading, replacing, etc... You could start with any of the many sites that offer BMW parts diagrams, to get a sense of what goes where- maybe even get the actual part number for the control and use that as a search term.... parts diagrams are good because they often have blow up pictures of the hidden clips and fasteners that hold trim pieces in, GL A

If there are "dozens" of places, why don't you post them? I haven't found a single one.

I drive Button has know stoped working. Still haven't found any tips on removing it. Interestingly my battery needs replacing, I am hoping the I drive issues are as a result of the battery issues. Ard can you send a link?

Personal experience and BMW documentation. What are you driving? Is your car/SAV still under warranty? Last edited by Jim E.; 03-27-2013 at 08:36 AM. |
