E21 projects.
I just wanted to show a couple of cars I have had for a couple of years now and I will be starting work on them this summer sometime. The blue one I am going to restore and the other I am going to build a race car with. The blue one is a 1979 and the other is 1980 or 1981 , I haven't taken the time to figure it out yet. I also have a black parts car that is either 1980 or 1981. I do not have any definate plans yet as to how I will build my race car , however it will be to the extreme when done with heavey modifications , probably a 4.4V8 unless I get a M5 3.6 but they are not very common , easier to find a 4.4L
I just wanted to say that I think this is a great site with lots of great information , just a little sad that there is not much activity in the E21 board and that no one made a stickey to post pics of all those nice E21's out there. |

I think all the E21s changed significantly in 1980 and that was the year they introduced the 1.8 L engine, added L-Jetronic in place of K-Jetronic (i think or maybe it was not until the E30s), but the biggest thing is they also went to the 5 speed transmission

I may be wrong about it, but I read that K-Jetronics that sit a long time tend to have problems

1980 was a change over year with the engines , you are right about that. And I am not sure about the rest of the world , but here in Canada you could still get a 4 speed trany in 1983. There are a few 5 speed E21's around , but not nearly as many compared to the 4 speeds.
I am not too woried about the 1979 injection system as it will be getting a full rebuild even though it still runs nicely. As for the other 2 cars I have never even tried to start them. I was told that one needs a fuel pump and the other should run , I just haven't had the time to tinker with them as life is very busy for me with my second child due any minute now and haveing to build my house & garage this summer while working 14 hour days. I also have a 1990 325i 4 dr That I want to fix this summer as an ocasional driver as I am sure the gravel roads will not be easy on it. |

I have no immediate plans for them. This project is at least another year away now as I am soo busy with work. I now also have a line on a 1972 1802 bmw that has front end damage , hopefully go pick it up in a couple weeks.
