transmission fault after replacing starter

Its been awhile since I've last posted about my e65 but this is about my e60 2006 530i. I changed the starter and forgot to hook back up the cps sensor so when I tried to starting the car it started giving me this transmission fault code which was not there before. I read a few threads here telling me to make sure the cps wire harness was hooked back up and sure enough it was not. Bad thing is I crushed it putting intake back together. Long story short, I ordered a harness and had to wire it back up my problem is the CPS has numbers 1,2,3 on it and the new harness I had to cut and splice the new harness back to the original hard wired one. I dont know which color to wire to the cps their are 3 wires O- orange BL/Bk blue-black and Y-Yellow. If anyone could help I would be very grateful.

Did you buy the correct harness? I'm assuming you have an N52 engine. It appears you may have a harness for the N54 engine based on the colors, unless the N52 and N54 harness are identical. According to the Bentley manual, the pin-outs for the N54 harness are: Pin 1 = Orange (OR), Pin 2 = Black/Blue (SW/BL), and Pin 3 = Yellow (GE). They don't show a wiring diagram for the N52 CPS for some reason so maybe they are the same -- not sure. On the N54 harness, the orange wire (pin 1) is the hot wire and goes to a 20A fuse. The other two go to the DME.

Thanks for responding. For this particular year the harness is hard wired in so I can't just go and buy this section of the harness. I did have to buy and cut the n54 harness and try to splice it back to the original wiring. I just wasn't sure about the color for each pin. Thanks again for your help.

It might be in Bentley under another heading based on where I found it on bmw-planet.

Keep in mind the BMW color codes DJtoad calls out.

I found this on bmw-planet:
