The loaner car I received is the same one I got last time. I'm beginning to wonder how many they have in their pool. I'm going to call my SA first thing tomorrow and let him know we are leaving town on Tuesday for spring break. If I don't get my car back tomorrow, he won't get the loaner back until Friday.

Just heard from my SA. He said they can't find the cause of the problem (at one point it felt like the turbo wouldn't kick in) and they might have to open a Puma (I guess that's how you spell it) case with BMW. It looks like my car might not be ready today. This really sucks.

Anyone know anything about Puma cases?

What code did they pull?

Until someone corrects me, I will say it is IMPOSSIBLE not to have some code set.

Now, it is true that maybe they cannot find the CAUSE, but in terms of set codes, this they should know.

PUMA is just BMW's factory engineers being bought in to review and assist. They do this when the testplans and routines that they have published will not identify the issue. When a car comes in, they pull codes. The codes then point to certain tasks for them to do- more tests, replace parts, etc. If a code has no testplan they kinda need to talk to BMW.

Here's the response I just got from my SA: Hey Chris, he is getting two codes... 4873 which is an EGR code and 4530 a charge pressure turbo code. BMW has him testing the valves on the EGR and he has one left to test. So far all test have come back with no problems. The second code is generated from the first.

Looks like they are going to replace the EGR heater.
