Talking Giddy Up! - About to order 2012 550i!!

Hi All,

I have been hanging around the site for the last 6-9 mths researching options for my upcoming purchase. Finally got everything lined up to pull the trigger this weekend.

I have to start by saying I wasted way too much time at dealers over the past several months negotiating with SoCal dealers. Contacted Greg Poland this week and wow, what a breath of fresh air. Straight up, open and honest quote. His transparency was amazing. I plan to place order with him tomorrow. Details below:

550i, auto, Imp Blue with Oyster/Black Dakota
Conv Pkg.
Cold Weather Pkg
Lux Stg Pkg
M-Sport
Prem Sound
HUD
Side/Top Cameras
Ceramic Controls

I can't thank everyone enough for participating in this forum. Hard to believe anyone would buy a BMW without referencing this site first. I feel like a six year old awaiting Xmas now. A tough 8 wks ahead patiently longing for my dream car.

Obviously have some time for some minor tweaks if anyone has thoughts/ideas on options chosen. Wish I could pull off an ED but will have to wait for the next one.

Thanks again to all!

Very nice 550i you are building. I would suggest adding the sport auto and the integral active steering.

If you value performance, get ARS (eliminates body roll in turns - a must for fun driving) and sport automatic transmission (faster shift times and steering wheel paddles). These 2 options cost about $3k today but are performance enthusiast must haves. ARS used to be part of the M Sport package on 5 Series but BMW pulled it out of that to serve buyers who just want the looks of the M Sport and don 't care about more body roll in turns. Dropping ARS from the M Sport package lowered the price of the M Sport package.

SAT does not come with the M Sport package in the US bound F10s. Trust me. I know of what I speak. I just took delivery of a custom built 2012 550i xDrive with M Sport. SAT and ARS are both additional options and are reflected as such in my window sticker.

Thanks for all the feedback. Not a huge fan of the sport paddles on the wheel and figured this beast is already a rocket without them. The IAS was my next consideration but topped out at my budget and couldn't seem to justify over the other options I chose.

I am not a fan of the paddles but am a fan of the faster shift times of the SAT

Dalekressin,
Great question and I've gone back and forth on that one. We live inland a bit in SoCal and have plenty of cold mornings/evenings out here. I've gone soft since my 9 yrs in the Twin Cities!
I also wanted split fold seats for flexibility which comes with cold weather pkg. By far, my most illogical choice and one I may reconsider in near term.

The Beast is Here and it's Unbelievable

Hi Everyone,

Well it was a long wait but well worth it-ordered exactly as listed in original post. I picked up my 550 on Saturday and I've been smiling for 24 hrs straight.

First of all the details of the pickup. Ship landed on the 14th. Dealer got it on the 18th and I picked up the 19th. I bought the car from the legendary Greg Poland and so glad I did. We interacted by email/text from quote to day of pickup and it was a real pleasure to finally meet him. I arranged to pick it up early evening and he assured me he would have everything ready. He delivered as promised and had a very pleasant surprise. Some recent option incentives reduced the monthly payment by $50! Got the Bimmerfest pricing on Rim/Tire, signed a few documents (finance guy was great/no hard sales pitch for other items) and was out to the car. Greg spent 30-45 min walking me through the car and even set up my BB with me. If your in SoCal, you just can't miss with Greg in my opinion.

As for the car, I am guessing it will take several months to get settled in but wow can it move. I know I am biased but I think the car is just stunning from all angles. Loving the ventilated seats, Idrive easier than I thought it would be, and the interior ambient lighting quite cool. Comfort access very convenient and my son loves opening the trunk with his foot. Also really liking the HUD, the steering wheel blocks a lot of the dials so having speed/nav up top is really convenient. Just wish it had RPM's as well.

Thanks again to all for participating on this forum. It has been (and will continue to be) a great resource for me.
