Vehicle Check - Service Due

I have a 2007 530i with about 58K on the odo. My IDrive indicates Service Due in another 1200 miles. When I looked at the Service Menu, the only item highlighted for service is "Vehicle Check ...... please take your car to the BMW dealer for inspection". All the other service items: Oil, Brakes, Plugs, Filter, etc are OK and do not need service for at least another 10K miles.

What does "Vehicle Check" service involve? Is it just a bunch of inspections and another way for the dealer to make some money?

Thanks for your help.

Does it refer to a State check or just a check in general? You can reset all those items on your own - there is a thread on here somewhere on how to do so. I just had my "State Vehicle Inspection" pop up and it actually allowed me to change the date right on the idrive.

Thanks Jaycal3. It is not the State Check (my dealer reset that indicator last time saying it does not apply in California). This indicator is for a "Vehicle Check". I can reset the message, but want to be sure I do not miss any important service. Please advise. Thanks.

Yes it is just an overall look on the vehicle for wear items that may be a concern. They even check tire wear and pressure. Leaks, bushings etc... They generally just "look" but don't touch. The two times I've had this done they found nothing and it was actually free at my dealership. I only took it in to get a free loaner. Now if they find any issues they would inform you and recommend getting then resolved at a cost if not under warranty. My dealer even slid a scope with a light attached inside the engine to look for defects. They then reset the vehicle check on drive to for another 30,000 miles.

Now while in San Diego last year I had the latest one done and BMW of San Diego lied to me about my front bushings being worn. They said it would be around $800 and those were wear items not covered under CPO. I declined and went to and independent shop and they were like wtf!? Your bushings are still good. Dealerships in Cali are notorious for doing that. Even went to a couple of bimmer events and a lot of people agreed. So I would do it, but then find an indy to perform the non-warranted issues they "will" find. Totally different here in VA.

Good luck.

Twist to scroll, push in which ever direction to move around and push down to enter.
