HELP!! Code P1434

My bimmer brothaz my engine light came on, not sure what to do. Just came back from autozone who gave me the error code. Definition "secondary air injection pump relay circuit short to positive"
Explanation "open or short circuit condition probable cause"
Failed air pump relay. Is this something I need to worry about, is it a big job? My car is running fine, but that light irritates me. Any help is always appreciated, this forum never lets me down.

Sounds like your air pump is bad. I'll wait for other to comment. But it can be a DIY job!

Also, the air pump only turns on when you first start you car to help the engine heat up. So you are "safe" to drive it. But I wouldn't leave it broken forever.

l
I'm sorry cant help at all with the code, but will say this: Sometimes the code readers that AutoZone and Advance Auto uses CAN give codes that arent part of the manufacturer's codes.(dont know why)I've experienced this firsthand with other cars, not my Bimmer, yet. (fangas crossed).

Pdux it turned out I just needed to buy a new gas cap, the first place I had the code read was at autozone which read my car as being a Volkswagen (crazy) and gave me the secondary air pump fuse malfunction, then I went to car quest and had it read again, that machine said I had a massive leak in the gas tank. The dude said change ur gas cap, I did and haven't had a problem since.

Thanks!

Real quick. Did the alarm go away on its own or did you have to clear it after you put the new cap on....?

the mechanic said it would go away (clear itself) after 10 starts, but i had it cleared because i had the valve cover gaskets and water pump change before i got to 10 starts.

Thanks for the post.
I took my 2006 750li to AutoZone and got same P1434 code/msgs. Will change the gas cap and wait a few days to see if the check engine light goes away.
Thanks.

Takes a day or two for the light to go away after replacing gas cap.

Replaced the gas cap, my check engine light disappeared after about a week. May be cause I did not drive much for that week.
