'brand new' car had 100 miles
When picked up from dealer. Is this normal? I was told it had only 15 miles? I just got car today. What are my recourse options available to me??
I also noticed some scratches. Thanks for your help.

That is definitely not normal unless they did a transfer with a dealer that's ~85 miles away.
Should have inspected for scratches before driving off the lot.

Did you order the car or take from dealer stock? If ordered, they shouldn't have let anyone drive it. I think my ordered 535i had 7 miles when I took delivery. Hopefully, the ydrove along with anyone who "tested" it and it probably wasn't abused in any way. If you have a couple of minor scratches, they can buff them out for you. If they're major, you have 3 business days to break the deal in most states.

You have to sign the odometer statement as part of the sales process. Why didn't you just refuse and back out.

Mine had about 40 miles. I think even if they let someone test drive it, nobody would abuse it with the salesman in the car. I am more afraid it was the dealership workers who took it for a spin in which case the car must have received a serious beating. I've seen those guys drive... (one sales guy took me for a ride once saying "he needed to drive it off the lot before I could drive". 0-60 in 5 seconds "drive off the lot" kinda thing. Well, my car seems fine so prob. no big deal.

40 I get. But car was advertised for 15 miles and 180 miles is way high. And yes you're right I am concerned with sales guys abusing it.

Wait I am confused...you signed the ODO statement but didn't take delivery of the car then? You don't take acceptance of the vehicle until you are ready to drive it off the lot. As far as the scratches are concerned unless you noticed them at the time you accepted delivery you are SOL... well not totally. You can just raise hell which is what I would do...
![]() Now if the ODO statement didn't match the ODO on the car you have a case of fraud against the dealer. Again... I would raise hell ![]() GOOD LUCK AND KEEP US APRISED!!!

If you have already bought it, there is nothing you can do. You own it now. There is nothing that can be damaged in 180 miles even if they don't follow break in procedures. As long as there is nothing physically wrong with the car that you can see, just forget about it and enjoy your new car.
Next time make sure you inspect the car and the odometer before signing the paperwork. Lesson learned.

I think it's easier said than done. We often say those things but would you really decline to accept the car? Probably not. If anything, I'd ask for a $100 voucher towards part of whatever down the road, but I don't think anyone with a sound mind would walk away for a shiny new car...

![]() Oh, but then you have a 528, in that case I don't know. ![]() ![]() Sorry, I had to say that. I really don't remember much from my 528 NA 6 test drive. Maybe it does operate at much higher RPM, but same logic would still apply, more or less.

Exactly! Plus if a dealership employee wanted to go hooning, I doubt they would take a 528i. There are better cars for hooning like a Z4 35is.
Those miles are probably customer test drives while it sat on lot.

I tend to agree with most posters, either the miles represent some test drives or it was delivered from somewhere, or a salesmen used it. You've got a warranty so I wouldn't worry. Get them to fix the scratches as consolation and you will be alright. Where are the scratches? What colour is the car? If they aren't overly deep, a good detailer can alleviate their impact quite a bit. It won't be the only scratch you get.

that many miles meant someone drove it, My 2000 528 had 127 miles on it. I test drove it five times, it was all my miles. But odometer disclosure showed the correct miles.I f the odometer statement was incorrect you should discuss with them some compensation as Federal Law was violated!

Smedley: Yes, I initially chose JetBlack cause thats what I had before as well (2005 530i). But honestly, I am kind of tired looking at it now, and If I am stuck with it for the next few years (I would rather switch it out).
Thanks for the recommendation...I am checking out both cars personally with my wife and we will make decision.... I may go with Black leather/SPACE GRAY just because I have a 4yr old and a 26 month old and they LOVE to cruise in my car...lol

Also, what is the spec on all of these cars? Must be pretty standard if they are swapping out and making your happy.
