Serpentine belt longevity?

Anyone know off hand how long they generally last for a 335i?
Thanks!

I don't think its one of those things you can tell by mileage really. In my opinion all serpentine belts should be changed at around 100,000 KM's /60,000 MILES or if you start seeing any wear and tear on them.

For a 335i?

But for about every other car I service making 60K miles is no problem at all. As suggested above, to be virtually certain of no belt related issue I would change it at 60. You can get an idea of the life by taking a look at the raised edges on the interior surface of the belt. Generally, if you see more that a dozen lateral cracks per inch it's time for a change. Or if you see any 'print thru' on the smooth outside surface, it's due. That's a condition where you see longitudinal lines which mirror the raised edges from the inside.
Needless to say -but I'll say it- if the belt has gotten oil soaked or damaged due to a seized component, it should be changed, now.

You've asked a fair question but in the wrong place. Try a more appropriate sub-forum, or start a new thread in this subforum.
And welcome Diamond, be sure to tell us all about your new car when you start a thread.

Thanks guys...(and diamond beemer)..
I kind of figured at least 40k miles...I'm just at 40k KM's and dealer tells me they are at 'caution' level.
I smell a scam.I'll have a look myself in the am.
Cheers!

Not sure why the belt in the 335 would differ from mine in the 328... and I have 102k on my original belt!

You're at 24,000 miles and they suggest you change your serp belt? Business must be very slow. Scam.
You do not need a belt unless it has been damaged by exterior forces. Period.

Thanks DSX.
Appreciate your comments for sure!
I have had mixed experience with this dealership...to be honest-mostly positive-but!
Yeah, 24000 statute, and on my wheel swap inspection, the serpentine belt garnered a 'caution'!
Thanks again!

Nor me brewder...other than the torque diff, and lets be liberal with that and say 20k miles...
I would still follow the advice of DSX and do it early...but hey not at 24k sm!
Like i said, I'll do some sort of inspect. tomorrow to see if I can see any bad cracks or whatever.
There has been no seizures or any problems...and I generally baby this thing (interspersed by the odd serious workout)..
