X5 Navigtion Screen Problem

2005 X5 with factory navigation system. "Warning" screen on start-up freezes and "Accept" button does not function. Intermittent problem - doesn't always happen, will sometimes respond after a few minutes or and hour of driving. Happening more frequently lately. Radio volume control not affected. How can I diagnose the problem? Dealer wants $140 to diagnose and says worst case is replacement of nav unit for $3,300! This is 20% of what the car is worth today.

Can anyone help with this problem?? Thank you in advance.

maybe you can replace with a after market head unit which also has navigation system, the price is much cheaper compared to original ones

head unit

I'm trying to find a way to diagnose whether it is the head unit, a loose connection, or the nav unit. The BMW head unit is about $900, aftermarket units seem to be around $650, but I want to be sure that is what the problem stems from.

I notice when mine shuts off my screen feels really hot. Does yours do that? I think I need to take it apart and blow it out.....

I solved it by trading in the X5 on a Toyota FJ Cruiser Special Edition - A much more reliable and better performing vehicle for half the price of a new X5. Never again.
