Many people dislike clowns. And, yet, Post thought this was a good idea for a breakfast cereal back in the day.

Can you imaging this sitting on the table during breakfast?

I mean, this whole campaign was seriously off-the-wall.

Through the wonders of the internet, I found that Krinkles the Clown was apparently the second mascot for the product. The first one was a small stereotypical Chinese boy (complete with bowl of cereal for a hat) named "So-Hi". He petered out after a few years, and the marketing geniuses came up with the clown. Or is it the marketing clowns came up with the geniuses? Or something like that.

Keep in mind that this commercial came out long before anyone heard of John Wayne Gacy, Slipknot or the Insane Clown Posse.

During that era (the 1950s) a very popular character on children's TV was Clarabelle the Clown on the Howdy Doody show so for most kids clowns were seen as funny and harmless.

As a bit of trivia: The part of Clarabelle was played a several actors over the years but the first Clarabelle was Bob Keeshan who later went on to be Captain Kangaroo.

How about "You're a clown for having eaten this cereal!"

I hope that everyone is doing well.

IMO, this is BMW's best looking creation to date. Happened to drive one recently, it's "everything' you want it to be. A coupe, SUV, 4-doors, higher-than-normal ground clearance, it handles great (though the weight does impact the driving dynamics to an exte.

Its versatility was not lost on me, and it's stark reminder each time I sit in the somewhat cramped E90. But to each their own...

I actually went to the studio and was in the audience with my classmates for Bozo the Clown out of Chicago.

Say... are we off topic or anything here?

If you can remember the 60s you missed the point.

I woudn't exactly call the X6 beatiful but it is a lot better than what other conpanies have come up with in that category.

Chez Francis, across from the Pont de l'Alma, by the Alma-Marceau metro station. I can't remember the clown commercials, but I can still recognize that corner. At least some of the synapses are still firing.

I'll come up with a tentative plan for late September.
Possibly in the Manchester, Vt. area.

Absolutely in attendance. Let us know if we can contribute in any way with the logistics, etc. C2C is great but why wait a whole year to have more fun? In fact, let's start thinking spring as well, this way we have more practice drives in preparation for the annual climb!
