2012 Z4 ordering cutoff date and ...
Hi, thanks for taking the time to read my first, well, second post. I'm new here and I'm seriously contemplating getting European delivery of a 2012 Z4 35is. I wanted to know how late I can order one for this model year? I'm going to be in Germany from August 8 until the 19th of 2012. Would that be doable or is it just too late and/or too difficult to nail down a delivery window? Thank you, again.

You cannot beat the ED experience especially if you are going to be in country anyway. It is an opportunity you will not forget. Enjoy! Go to the following link for everything you want to know about ED. http://www.bimmerfest.com/wiki/index...opean_Delivery

The very minor changes for April 2012 just started production. Only announced change for April is that you can now raise or lower the top at speeds up to 25mph.

Andrew*Debbie where you found this information? My car has not started production for a June ED. What are my chances to get this feature?

I read this somewhere on the web as well (open/close roof up to 25 mph (or was it km/hr?)). Don't know if it is true. Posted it in another Z4 forum -- nobody ever confirmed this to me.

The open close roof starts with July production here in the United States

I wonder if BMW I addin a smart top type module or if they are accomplishing this via a codon change. If its coding, we should be able to change it ourselves.

According the the short note in Inline Six, they have strengthened the top mechanism. It isn't just enabling something that has always been there or a firmware update.
I wonder if US production cars have the updated hardware but won't be getting the feature enabled until some other thing happens in July. BMW could be using old parts in the US cars and new hardware for Europe but that seems less likely. Just speculation on my part.

OK, Just checked with International delivery...Z4 2012 production end is slated for circa July 12th. Mind you, that's a moving target. I was told however, the very next day starts 2013 production, July 13th. I was under the assumption there would be a gap for retooling, etc. So, the first europen delivery could be done August 12th, according to the lady on the phone. Now, I just have to decide if I want to wait for a 2013 or stick with 2012. What do you think I should do? She said pricing increases would be found at my dealer. But there has to be another way to find out, I would think.

If the Atacama yellow Z4 on BMW's web page this morning is a 2013 model, I'm opting to get the 2013! Can anyone verify if it is? The grille, headlights and air intakes are slightly different. It looked stunning. I took a pic of it with phone's camera. Can I post it here?

Thank you but I'm not talking about that page you are showing. It's the page way before you start configuring the car.
I just looked on youtube for the 2013 and the picture on the BMW page looks better than the one at the Chicago auto show in February. The intakes look way better. I took a pic of the BMW web page with my camera. I wish I knew how to post it here. I'm looking to order a 2013. Sent from a HTC EVO |

My apologies. Someone has a video of a 2013 Z4 at the Chicago auto show. I guess it really isn't one.
The bezels of the lower intakes are nice in the pic I posted. I have never seen that before. Is the fact that the shape of the intakes are leaning in an abaxial slant, if you will, a matter of European styling? In other words, can we get that look here in the states? Argh! I'm embarassed. I hadn't realized the differences between the same model year 35i and a 35is. I was thinking the differences I saw on the BMW website were due to model year changes. Ok, my bad. Sorry for the confusion on my part.
But now that I have this clear I couldn't help but notice the large difference between the 35i and 35is when both equally loaded. It makes me wonder what am I actually getting for the extra 10k. |

You can order the grill parts for a 35is and put them on the other models. Ditto for the Matt Oxide Silver mirror caps that come with some colors. Personally I think the silver mirror caps would look very wrong with Atacama.
There is also the black BMW Performance grill kit. That would look fantastic with yellow. http://www.shopbmwusa.com/ProductLis...=236&perf=true See it here --> http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewto...p?f=23&t=35407
