E82 / E88 1 Series (2008 - 2013)
BMWs throw back to the iconic 2002, with a renewed form and function. The smallest car in BMW's line up but still packs a punch. Available in coupe or convertible, powered by either an inline 6 in the 128 or the twin turbo rocket sled 135. |

High level brake light on 1 series convertible
I am now on my second replacement high level brake light even though my car has only done 7500 miles. It is a 125i convertible registered in June 2008. The first brake light was replaced around six months after I purchased the car and the second one broke recently. I am advised by my Dealer that where the light is mounted in the boot lid there is a raised piece of metal which has to be filed down otherwise it places abnormal pressure on the outer cover of the light which eventually causes it to crack. Although the car is out of warranty I am hoping BMW will cover cost as a goodwill gesture as it is a known fault in the early models.

High level brake light
Dealer asked BMW UK if they would pay for repair but they refused. Rang BMW UK myself but still same answer as car out of warranty. Wrote letter to BMW UK explaining that the first replacement light had not been fitted correctly as first Dealer had not carried out required modification so caused light to fail again - believed that such a component should last life of car so was not fit for purpose. Also stated that loyal BMW customer with 17 BMW's purchased too date. Result - BMW UK agreed to cover cost - it pays to be persistent!
