M3 Auto Stop/Start Feature

Is the auto start/stop feature activated when the light on the button is on or off? I couldn't find anything about it in my initial scan of the manual for my 2012 M3 coupe. Thanks.

Be glad at least we have a choice - the F10 5 series (not gas guzzlers) and others have it set to default ON and need to be physically turned off each time the car is started. The light is small and low on the console, so does not intrude as much as the start/stop would having to reset it every drive.

My guy at the PC told me to try it for awhile. He says it's a good feature and once you get used to it, you won't even notice it. I just couldn't remember whether it was light on activated or non-activated. Now I know light off, system activated which seems counter intuitive to me.
