BMW F10 Vibration Defect

I've been having vibration problems with mine. Put a factory set of wheels and tires on the back and my vibration was gone. I've had my rears road force balanced 4 times and all road force values were 10lbs or less. So I had them use the wheel lug attachment. What this does is it centers the wheel in the machine by the lug nuts rather than the center bore. Long story short, my vibration is gone.

Interesting. Doesn't make sense as BMW wheels are hubcentric and I would think the lug attachment would help for lug centric wheels.

I know but this is turning into a crap shoot and I told the tech to try it. For some reason though, going the lug route the hunter machine required 2 inner weights and two outer weights in 4 different locations, which before it only required 2 weights in two locations when centering on the center bore. In the end the RF was 6lbs. I just pray I don't lose any weights, cause I'll be back to square one!

Your RF values are 6lbs each wheel? All the same?

BMW F10 Vibration Defect

Update- so they've had my car since 9 th Dec ( today 30 th dec) they've changed an engine mount, something on a drive shaft and reset all setting on the whole car. These things were done as requested by Bmw Germany. The dealership is stumped but agree that it's not the wheels. My best bet is torque converter and the dealership agree, but they are under orders from Bmw who obviously don't want to replace such an expensive part.

I just gave up and decided to live with mine.
Who has the time to be going back and forth
just for them to tell you there is nothing.
But everytime I look to the passenger seat
headrest and watch it have a cargasm between
60-70, it drives me nuts. I try to avoid that speed range
like a bad habit.

2 more years and I return car anyway
Kind of sad to have to think this way.

BTW, the same rims on the 650 which are like butter
were put on the 535 and at 60 -70 it all started shaking.

Dealer doesnt want to hear it because its aftermarket.

On;y thing left is to throw the stock wheels on the 650
and do a reverse comparison for them!

I just purchased a 2014 528xi luxury line,, this comes with 18 inch rims and tires. from the moment I test drove the car I could feel a slight shake in the steering wheel between 40-80 mph. The salesmen told me I was crazy. I purchased car and 500 miles later I still felt the vibration/ shake in the wheel. I brought the car in and they replaced two continental tires after road force balancing the car. I thought the problem was gone. Local driving you donít notice it, when you go on road trip on a smooth road between 60-80 mph it feels like a tuning fork/vibration in the wheel, the seat and the left armrest. I'm frustrated! I didnít buy a 60k car to have to Google why my steering wheel vibrates anyone have a similar problem. I called service rep,, he said bring the car in again.

Thank you

Mine is smooth when I drive, but I have subtle vibration at idle, Its little more noticeable in the winter especially with cold start, The car has 2K Miles on it only, the dealer is telling me BMW is like that and its not like MB or Lexus where the steering feel really isolated with no vibration at all!

Apparently the managing director of BMW GB is coming to drive my car himself on Tues 7th Jan.....By then It will be 2 days short of a month that they've had my car. When I finally do get it back I'll be selling it and returning to Mercedes E-class.

that's too bad. I would be raising holy hell if they had my car for a month and didn't give me a decent loaner.

I am having the same issues on my 2013 535 even in comfort plus mode.

My rear view mirrow shakes so bad it is hard to see cars behind me without getting a headache...

Anyone else having rearview mirror issues?? Try touching it while going 70mph!

Unfortunately I have this. I test drove the car only at low speed. Turns out on the highway about ~60mph I have a slight vibration. It's not bad enough for me to get too worked up over, but I don't love driving it on the highway right now, and I had been planning to take it back to BMW to have them check it out. Now I'm a little worried that it's something less easy to solve.

Our 2011 3 series has absolutely, positively, and totally no vibration. It is one of the smoothest cars I've ever driven. It's a huge bummer for me that the 535i doesn't feel this way. Was hoping it would just be a simple wheel balance.

So the top man came down to drive my car today and felt the vibration. He has told the dealer to change the centre prop bearing and also put a new set of wheels on it and he's coming back to drive it tomorrow 8th Jan.
I've already tested it with a different set of wheels and so has the dealership and the problem is still there.
We will see what tomorrow brings......

Whats so appalling and baffling is that great big fast growing company like BMW cannot get this fixed after 3 years ago when I first had vibration on this 2011 BMW 5. Its a terrible shame that many of you are suffering the same fate.

Update- dealer changed prop centre bearing and put a brand new set of wheels and tyres on it. Still shaking !...Interestingly though they said they switched the engine off and in neutral and it was still shaking. They are changing both rear wheel bearings but they have to come from Germany (another 5 days). Watch this space.....

My 2013 530i, is silky smooth, has no vibrations whatsoever. I am following this thread with a lot of interest, it is unbelievable how many people seem to have this problem for a long time, and there is no known cause or solution.

Took mine in the shop a few days ago for the standard oil change and asked them to check my vibration issues.

They agreed there is an abnormal shake, but they can't figure out why.

They just called and asked to keep the car until next Monday....

At least the 328 is smooth and very fun to drive

My car definitely shakes. I guess it's more like "vibrates". I'm a pretty OCD type guy, and this stuff drives me nuts. My car is a '14 550x MSport. I purchased a set of 351 takeoffs with winter tires from a board member and was kinda thinking/hoping that they were not a "perfect" set of wheels, and that they were causing the vibration...I notice it from 58-80...sucks.

I'm going to sit tight 'till I get my summer wheels put back on.

Mine silky smooth when driving but I have little nasty vibration in the steering wheel, seats, and floor. . It's minimal but very noticable and annoying
