good find!!!
I wonder how many E60s have the original battery and why did want to modify it now after all those batteries have been changed??? OH!!! while they are at it, they should add another 10 minutes to re route the computers in the trunk!!! Last edited by njlou; 03-26-2012 at 11:52 AM. |

Its not the battery thats being recalled... just the cable cover. And I think the module in the trunk has since be relocated... I agree though it sure took them long enough!

I was thinking about the battery placement too. If they don't do that, I will end up getting a trunk liner.

I am aware that the battery is not being recalled.
My thought was that if all those thousands of (Older) batteries were replaced over the years, the cable cover should have been already mounted properly(????). Excerpt from the recall: "In some remote cases, the battery cable cover inside the boot of these vehicles may be incorrectly mounted." bimmerrg: AFAIK: a battery will last about 4+ years. The car has to be used somewhat frequently to recharge the batt - an unintended consequence of effecient dynamics. Also it has to be a good boy and get enough sleep LOL!! If the computers dont allow sleep mode (shut off) it will drain the batt and cause premature failure. The normal battery/alternator/ charge concept is out the window. It's a new game in this one. battery Cost: $$$$ MUCHO $$$ |

I just started having issues with my battery. Having difficulty starting the car. I figured it was just time to replace. I've had the car 4+ years, so I made an appointment to take the car in to my dealer to get a new battery. But now I wonder if this issue is the reason its failing. I guess I'll find out soon enough.

They last 4-5 years usually. Replace them when they show initial signs of weakness. Electrical power is very important to the operation of many systems on these cars. A new battery runs $260 roughly. Don't pay more than that. Installation and registration takes no time hardly, but BMW routinely charges several hundred for that.

We are just 2 months away from a 6 year-old original battery. Never had any starting problems or weirdness. The car is garaged during winter months with a trickle charger from time to time. No doubt, this car may be due for a recall check on that part since it's the original battery.

I'm 4 months away from 5 years on mine and I have had no problem except the very first day I got the car when I read the owners manual learning the cockpit controls with the engine off... the darned thing went to sleep on me and had the "Increased Battery discharge" caution upon starting.
So now, BMW will fix my car when it is not broke like when they replaced my HPFP. The less they touch my car, the better I feel. Maybe I can postpone until my battery actually dies after a fruitful and successful life...

if you are on dealers or BMWNA list (original owner, had services for some time etc..) - they will send you a letter....be patient - this may take several month... You can also call local dealer and they will check if your vehicle is on the BMW list (if they already have it) and will fix it...

"In some remote cases, the battery cable cover inside the boot of these vehicles may be incorrectly mounted."
BTW. .I am not sure if I understand what exactly the problem is and what will they be fixing..... What is exactly the problem that justifies recalling??? http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...60&hg=61&fg=10 "cover" is # 8... How incorrectly mounted can it be? |

After washing my 2008 528i on Sunday, I could not get the car to start. It was then towed to the dealer on Monday. Late yesterday they called to say it needed a new battery and registration. They also stated that it is not going to sleep like it should and they wanted to do a draw test. All told, they quoted over $1,000. FYI, it is the original battery and the car will be 4 years old in April.
This morning I see the news on the recall and I'm wondering if this is related. I spoke with the dealer and they are trying to convince me that it is unrelated. Comments??? |

it seems that BMW is starting (continuing) to have the Jaguar syndrome.
Where the car has more vertical miles than horizontal. LOL EVERYTHING on this car is a minimum of $1000 to repair!! |

had it towed to another BMW dealer, and they "replaced a battery cable" for $55 and it has worked fine...so, it may be your battery, but it may also be the cable issue. Have them do that first and then go from there. BTW, when I had the battery replaced and registered at BMW, it cost about $350...Cheers George |

My dealer is right on the job!! I just got a notice from them.
Here it is in part: The issue involves the bolt connecting the positive battery cables at the insulated bulkhead connector in the vehicle's trunk. The positive battery cable routed from the battery in the trunk to the engine compartment consists of one cable in the trunk, and a separate cable at the vehicle's under body. These two cables are connected via a bolt connection in the vehicle's trunk. This bolt connection is secured to the trunk floor panel by an insulated bulkhead connector. In rare cases, the insulated bulkhead connector may have been incorrectly attached to the trunk floor panel. Over time, this can lead to a loosening of the bolt connection. Affected are BMW 5 Series and 6 Series models, as follows: Model Year/Model Production Dates 2004-10 5 Series Sedan Jun. 1, 2003-Dec. 31, 2009 2006-10 5 Series Sports Wagon Mar. 1, 2005-Mar. 31, 2010 2004-10 6-Series Coupe Sep. 1, 2003-Jul. 31, 2010 2004-10 6-Series Convertible Dec. 1, 2003-Jul. 31, 2010 2006-10 M5 Sedan Jul. 1, 2005-Dec. 31, 2009 2007-10 M6 Coupe Feb. 1, 2006-Jul. 31, 2010 2007-10 M6 Convertible Jul. 1, 2006-Jul. 31, 2010 |
