Auto gear knob trim

HI Does anyone know how I can remove the trim from auto gear knob? I wanted to paint it to match with my interior but not sure how to remove it. I took the gear knob out from the stick.

If anyone did that please let me know who?

Thanks in advance

I tried but its very hard and not coming out. Is it glued inside? Will it break if I pull the trim piece (Wooden) from the knob very hard?

Maybe try a little heat if you think it is glued on. It would probably be a bit of a pain, but what about just masking off the area's you don't want painted and then pain the trim piece while it is still on the knob?

Perhaps some others will come through with a way to remove it, but remember to ask them about how it went back on and if there were any issues with finished fitment. Just because you get it off in one piece does not mean it will fit back together nicely.

I can't figure this out either. I'm trying to piece together a set of Birch Anthracite trim right now and just received the Auto knob. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to get the old trim off. Here's some pics of the piece. If anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears.
