Long layover in Dusseldorf; what to do?

We have a 10 hour layover in DUS enroute to Munich. Is it possible to exit the airport and sightsee before flying on to Munich?

You definitely have more than enough time to leave the airport.

Cologne is only a 40-minute drive - not sure about how long the train would take - but you might even have time for a 3-hour visit there.

Are you saying Dusseldorf isn't much to see so its better to take a trip to cologne?

This is fantastic timing as we plan to take full day trip to Cologne during our 4 day stay in Boppard in mid-April. Of course, the Dom is on our list as is Old Town. I hope I can find a copy of the NY Times to read the article.

The other city in our plans for a day trip from Boppard is Trier. I know that taking the Mosel river road will make for a long trip, we plan to do this if the weather cooperates.
