New Post on Detailing the Interior now that I finally finished the leather, plastic, carpets, glass, etc.

http://southern6er22.blogspot.com/p/new-posts.html

Here are some new pics I took. They're a bit redundant as I haven't had time to go through and get rid of the pics that are very similar - on the to-do list. There's a link to these at the bottom of the detailing post I just added.

Let me know what you think.

If you had to mount your front plate on the car, what do you recommend?

BMW gives you a front plate mount (mine was in the trunk when I took delivery) should you need it.

I asked incorrectly: what methods are there to mount a plate without permanently drilling into the bumper?

I haven't looked too closely at the bracket, but there are two holes (red arrows in attached pic) on the under side of an overhang on the bumper that appear to be positioned specifically for that bracket. You can't see them, but I felt them the other day while washing my car.

Have you tried 3M molding tape?

http://www.autogeek.net/3m-auto-tape.html

Are you required to have a front plate installed in your state?

I don't have to have the front plate in Alabama, so I haven't paid too close attention to the ways to mount and/or get around mounting one (I've heard some pretty clever solutions).

I think there are still two holes required for the top of the plate.

We're required to have front plates here in Ohio, but I've always belligerently refused and paid the fines when/if they occur. I just hate the look of a front plate.

Someone (I forget who it was, and I'm too lazy to go back and find it) a while back said that if they got a ticket, then they taped the plate on the front, snapped a picture, sent it to the gov't, and they dropped the ticket.

I just checked the stats on my blog, and I've had over 5,100 views (from people in 10 different countries) of the blog and more than 2,600 views of my videos. Glad to see people are checking them out. The idea started as a way to consolidate all of my stuff in one place online rather than scattered throughout threads on these forums, and I never imagined that many people would be checking them out. Thanks for checking it out

Just wanted to pop in and say THANKS for your blog. I'm one of those (normally) anon readers, and I truly enjoy it.

Keep up the great work!

PS: Went for a test drive in a 650i convertible a couple days ago. Loved it! My thoughts are leaning towards waiting for the 2013 models, since I'm in no rush.

Glad you like it

I'd wait for a 2013 at this point if I were you. The rational side of my brain told me to wait, but the 10 year old boy inside of me needed immediate satisfaction - and that still took 2.5 months after placing my order. There's a chance that they'll put the tweaked 445 hp engine in the 2013, although I tend to think they won't. Regardless, I'd still wait considering how late it is in the cycle. They'd have to throw a hell of a deal at me to buy a 2012 at this point in the year. Glad you liked the car. A normal test drive doesn't do the car justice... at least mine didn't. I found that to be a good thing because it made the car that much greater once I took delivery.

Great feedback! I have an internet manager frustrated with me because I am looking for that great price. But BMW is not offering support at this time.

I certainly hope the 2013 models have the latest HUD as found in the new 3-series. What a shocker!

Would you complete a credit application to have a car for a few hours alone?

I'd shop around at different dealers. I got quotes from Mobile, Pensacola, New Orleans, and one in Houston. There was a pretty big difference between the different dealerships. I ordered in November, so that definitely helped in terms of timing, but I think a lot of it probably has to do with the dealerships. I think Mobile wanted my business a lot more than Houston, likely given the market and volume of 6ers they can sell. I didn't pursue Houston and try to work them down, but based on intial quotes alone Mobile was far superior.

I would do some paperwork and let them check my credit for a long test drive, but I would make sure that nothing was binding. Have you ever bought from them before? If you haven't, then I really can't blame them for not wanting to hand over the keys to just anyone who may not have the most innocent of intentions. All dealers are different. For my test drive, they pretty much told me the route to follow. I wasn't thrilled by that, but it was good enough to get a feel for the car. When I was test driving the M3 and X6 in Houston, the CA just pointed me in the direction of the freeway and let me go in the X6. In the M3 he kicked my dad and brother out of the car, and we took off. This was a brilliant move as (a) the car wouldn't have handled as well with all the extra weight, and (b) it allowed him to taunt me a bit and really push the car which probably wouldn't have happened with parental supervision lol. It was a brilliant move on the CA's part, because those 30 minutes were enough to make me adore the M3. Most fun I ever had in a car until I got to drive an M3 around the track at the PC.

I wonder if they'll let the new engine be exclusive to the Gran Coupe before letting it trickle down to the coupe and vert. It might help justify the price jump at the beginning.

That was me. I used Velcro, took a picture, and then took it off. I'm not mounting that thing.

Southern, did your car get louder after the break in period, or was it always loud? Doing some detective work here.

I can't say that I notice a difference from the day I got it and today. I think it's always been about the same. How do my videos compare to what your hear?

Why not just work with a forum sponsor? You're welcome to PM me for a recommendation. My deal worked out exactly as expected with no hassle or back and forth.

I really don't know why my exhaust valves are always open no matter what mode I'm in an even in "park". It actually sounds like my X6, though.
