Whats the fastest you've driven your E46?

Until yesterday I had never had mine past 85 but felt adventurous and got it up to 120 on the interstate for a short while. Anyone ever had theirs up to the register speed (155)?

The only people who can hit 155 are ZHP owners or people with custom software. Otherwise all E46's are limited to 127mph.

Is there a limiter? And, if so, would something like the "Bavarian Autosport Power Programmer" disable the limiter?

125 ish and didn't have much left.

Seriously. Unless your on the autobahn or tracking your car there's no point of having your car do over 100mph ever really.

Yes and yes. As I said, all E46's are limited to 127mph except the ZHP and M cars.

All American-spec E46s you mean. Euro-spec E46s can go faster.

It isn't that I plan to drive 128 or over - its knowing that I have the ability to. Its the very same philosophy of why we all own a BMW: we could have easily afforded another car, but had the ability to buy the BMW instead.

In which case, why do you actually *need* the de-limiter ? It would be cheaper & easier *to just tell yourself* "I KNOW this thing could go faster without the limiter"....

Yeah yeah. But doesn't the performance software also increase air intake and other things that is better for the car overall? It isn't just removing the limiter that has my eye.

Chips don`t do jack-sh!t for performance or gas mileage....if you wanna go all-out in your quest to "improve" that 325, you can spend $2500 (or more) on a chip, CAI, cat-back exhaust, pullies, etc., and you MIGHT get a 15 RWHP increase....do you *really* see that as a good investment ?

That`s a matter of driver experience, not vehicle capabilities....

Fast enough that I had to back off for fear of losing my license (again).

I saw it too last night on tbs I think. Maybe that's why I'm thinking about speed.

It was someone else's E46, but faster than all of you...at least than you've gone in the US

Coming home at like midnight one night, empty stretch of mountain freeway, nice long straight, I hit like 110 I think. Nothing to brag about, but it was still neat to see it get up to that with little effort or fanfare on the part of the car.

Unfortunately in this country, there are too many people who don't know how to drive. Doing anything significantly above the speed limit exposes you to idiots that may do anything, at any time. I have driven at 150-160 in Germany, on the Autobahn, with people who do know how to drive, and to me, it wasn't worth it. It takes too much concentration, as was not really enjoyable. They don't have many accidents, because traffic law enforcement is severe, and people follow the rules of the road, but when they do, the victims are scraped up with a spackle knife.

Yup...nothing quite like driving down the autobahn at 130MPH+ with somebody following 15 feet behind chatting to their girlfriend while drinking coffee.

The quality of driver there is significantly higher than North America as they prefer to not live by the "lowest common denominator" principal. Still, and has been pointed out, when they have an accident, it is severe and often involves numerous vehicles and fatalities.

To the OP...yes, our cars have limiters and they work...don't ask how I know.

Whats this limiter every one keeps speaking of....
