Post The X1 will Make it's US Debut at the New York Auto Show and Arrive as a 2013 Model

X1 Comes to the United States

We have been talking about it all year but now we have finally learned that the BMW X1 will be shown off for the first time at the 2012 New York Auto Show at the beginning of April. Details are limited at this time but all signs indicate the X1 xDrive28i is coming as a 2013 model sometime later this year and will feature the well reviewed N20 motor found in the new F30 3 Series.

Bimmerfest will be live at the New York Auto Show covering the launch and will have more details as we get them.

Other than wondering if the X1 will get a 6 speed manual option, what else do you want to know before thinking about ordering one?

Update: The new X1 will arrive in US showrooms THIS summer! Reports indicate that the X1 will come in multiple model variants though exact details are still unknown.

That's nice to hear. Won't change any personal car purchase decisions though. Somehow, I'm a bit pessimistic about the X1's future in the US. Americans won't like its interior or ride or styling, and my hunch is that it will be priced close to the X3.

Still looking for a vehicle that achieves better than 5,5 l/100km on the highway and 6,5 l/100km (43 US mpg/36 US mpg) combined. Also emissions lower than 160g/km. My standards are on the high side for most buyers but I think they're very reasonable, given today's fuel prices and environmental consciousness.

if it's available by the end of the July for euro delivery, I'd be interested. Hopefully there is also a reasonable discount compared to the X3. While the new 3 is what I was hoping to do as an ED this summer, I am waiting until the options and packages are revised (crossing my fingers for more flexibility in ordering),

I know the X1 is currently being built in Europe. Anyone know if the NA version be built in Europe or S. Carolina?

I would love to do an ED for one of these for my wife.

I'd like to know MPG on xDrive version, as well as the possibility of a diesel version. Also, what is the starting price in USD? THAT'S the key.
After that, it's a matter of seeing if it has enough back seat space and cargo room.

Based on the stats from the Canadian X1 with the N20, you can basically guess that the combined highway/city mileage will be roughly 28 miles per gallon. Obviously that is a guesstimate but its probably +/- 2 miles per gallon.

I sincerely doubt that we will get a diesel here in the US

Like AzNM said above, I'm going to guess it will be priced too close to the X3. The X3 starts at 37,100 and climbs to just over 42 with a few options. I'd love if the X1 started around 33 and didnt have to go over 38 with options, but I think I'm wishful thinking.

Do we expect a price announcement in a few weeks when it arrives at the NY auto show?

There is a chance that we would get some idea on pricing but that would only be a starting price I would guess if it happens. In looking at the price comparisons in Canada, the X1 starts at 38,500 while the X3 starts at 41,900 making a difference of 3,400 between the two. If you apply a similar difference in pricing for the US (which is probably not going to happen) then you wind up with a starting price of $33,700 which may seem just about reasonable. Add in the fact that these are made in Europe so you could do European Delivery potentially and you are looking at a good value in comparison to the X3 which does not offer that option.

The devil is going to be in the details like the option pricing. The new 328i looks really attractive with a starting price of $34,900 but then you jump up to $40,845 when adding in Xenon headlights (which requires the $3,600 premium package), metallic pint and the destination fee.

We will certainly try to get as much information as we can from the folks at BMW in two weeks at the New York Auto Show.

Agreed...

It will come with one engine... the turbo-4... and AWD/automatic only...

That said, my wife would love one... she is not enamored with her Infiniti..

If it's auto-only, I'll get a VW GTI. If they offer a 6-speed manual, then this could replace my 2006 X3 3.0i (m-sport, manual, xenons, premium, PDC)

Based on some information we just received, the X1 will arrive with multiple model variants though there is no specific information at this time. I would fully expect the X1 xDrive28i, X1 xDriver35i and from other rumors possibly even the M35i xDrive.

We should be able to get a ton more information on April 4th that we will report back here as soon as we hear anything.

BMWNA is too late to the oil burner game. It is official US is getting MB GLK250 BlueTEC.

GLK gets a 250 Bluetec trim for the model year. Mercedes says this four-cylinder diesel is the most powerful ever to reside in an SUV; the direct-injected 2.1-liter inline-four makes 190 horsepower and 369 pounds-feet of torque. The GLK250 Bluetec comes standard with permanent all-wheel drive.

Good news, MB leaded the line of the efficient 4 cyl diesels in GLK (too bad it's so ugly, looks like a shoe)
I guess Audi will be next with Q5 2.0 TDI
and then finally I predict BMW will possibly bring X3 xdrive28d or X1 xdrive28d with 4cyl twin-turbo oil burner

I just did this, because the official press release (and my dealer) confirm no manual.
